Kjet Mods

Post by zain_c »

Hi guys,

So i'm contemplating doing small mods to my Jetta in the new year. Still runs on Kjet...has no issues, and been my daily drive since Feb when I bought it.

I'd like to add some grunt to it, nothing over the top though. But would it be worth it to mod this motor on this specific injection system?

Thinking a 276 Estas and some headwork port etc and possibly bigger valves. My concern is will these changes mess with the Kjet? I'm guessing some tuning will need to take place but I don't know anybody here in CT that is even vaguely familiar on tuning or adjusting the Kjet to accomodate the mods.

Thanks

Fueling side will be fine on the kjet and it will compensate for the added airflow. Cant recall if the csi had the ignition module or vacuum advance carb. But that will be more out on tuning side. Rather look at efi before you strt porting and bigger valves.

K-jet is very tolerant of mods. Even big valve and flow

It's always best to check that it's doing the fuelling right still and tomset thentiming for best power but in thenolden days we did fairly substantial mods before any adjustment was needed. Ferroli in the cape used to know them. Ask if they still remeber how

what's the big hype surrounding the Gcam? For years I've been hearing guys making a big deal about it.

Thanks Panic...will do more research. Just don't want to be in the situation where my Kjet starts giving problems. When that happens, a 9A will go in.

It was the "biggest" stock cam at the time and they were easily ground to a higher duration..

G cam is 252 degrees if I recall correctly.. like I say been a few years.

besides the fueling , What about rev limit on kjet to mention one?

I understand that Kjet will be accommodating to mods but also wont get the best out of the mods?

K-jet is a fuelling system only on mk1 and should not rpm limit.
On the mk1 the rev limiter should be in the distributor as a fly out weight on the rotor and by changing / removing that should take care of the limiter.
In all honesty - if you remove a good working correctly set K-jet for EFi and think you are going to gain HP you are in for a very rude surprise. They were extremely good at making power and doing what they did. K-jet disappeared for emissions controls - not because it was not making power.

A g-cam came out in GTI and CTI and they were an amazingly long 232 degrees. It was quite a bit nicer to a stock cam in the lower capacity engines and was an easy way to gain a few KW with no other bad side effects.
A G-cam meant for solid lifter heads could be cut to a fairly long cam for a hydraulic lifter head.

aaaaah all the knowledge! Thanks Panic!

I guess I'll be going through with adding those small tweaks to my mk2 then! Another reason why I'd like to carry out these additions is because I'd like to get back into doing the monthly trackdays at Killarney. Preffered way more than drags when i had my daily driver AGG Citi.

I won't be going crazy on the mods, it's still my daily after all.

Excellent post..

Sorry I used Higher instead of Longer...

Ferrari, Porsche, Audi, Certain British Sports cars all used KJet...

Wasn't the rev limiter also in the Fuelpump relay? Remember we removed mine in the Cti and added one that didnt do the signal?

So the rev limiter in the fuel pump relay is year model related. And if you have that you can simply use the fuel pump relay for a 16v which will give you 7200 rpm.
