MK2 Engine Bay Wiring

Post by Hannes83 »

Good Day you wonderful People.

I was browsing the Forum a couple of times in looking for help with my Current Project.
I have found some very Helpful hints concerning My MK2.

My Question for you guys is.

I just Got myself a MK2 GTI Body which use to run on EFI.
The Previous Owner Butchered the Engine Bay Wiring.
I want to fit a 8V 2.0L ADY with Carburetor in the Body.

What wires will i Need to be able to get this Engine Running?
It was Originally on a Mk2 CSL Body.

I know EFi is more Sufficient But I Still Prefer Carb.

Any Help concerning a Wiring Diagram will be Appreciated

Hi,

Fortunately carb doesn't really need many wires.

The main wires you would need is:
1. Power from ignition to the coil
2. WHat dizzy will you run?
2.1 Vacuum Advance Dizzy - you will require a tp100 harness and wire in the coil, dizzy and tp100 module. There's around 7 wires and pins are on google. Bear in mind if you run a vac adv dizzy, you need an adaptor plate to fit that dizzy onto the ADY.
2.2 Non Vac Adv - you will need a wiring harness and control box from a mk3 carb - this is the harder way but you get to use the dizzy that comes with the motor.
3. Power to starter that only comes on when key is cranked.
4. All important wires to cluster such as High and Low Oil pressure, water temp, water level, rev counter?
5. The carb itself requires an ignition 12v as well for the soleniod.

Not sure what you have, perhaps check and we can advise anything further.

Just a reminder you will need an adaptor plate for the carb as well to close up the injector ports on the ADY.
Have you had your bottle of Hatorade today?

Hi VWicked
Thank you for the Reply.
The ADY has all the Required Adapters.
It was running in my CSL.
Im putting the ADY in a GTi Body as mine was Smacked from the Back by a Truck.
I still have the Original TP100 & Wiring Harness from the CSL.

Will the colour coding for the Water, oil, fan and so forthed be the same in the GTi?
As the Previous Owner Hacked the Wiring on the GTi?

It should be the same.

Yellow, red trace is water temp. Blue wire and white wire for oil pressure sensor. Fan wiring is seperate piece mostly red with black trace.

copper gasket maker or what exactly are you talking about. Exhaust maybe - no need on intake

If you use a proper gasket on the intake it is almost never needed. All it will do is making it hard to take it apart next time.

Got the new Body on Saturday. Lots of work waiting. But very Excited.
I still have my old 5 Door for some Donor Parts.
The New Body has a Sunroof. but Roof Lining sagged.
How difficult will it be to remove roof Lining from Donor Body to fit new body and to Cut out Sunroof?
The Donor Roof Lining is not Material covered. Don't know how to Describe the roof. but it feels nice & hard.
As this is my first ever Rebuild of a Body.

So there might be a couple of Questions that I will ask during the Reassembly and Fitment of all the Parts.
