Dif between mp9 & mpi

Post by Dub rox »

Hi guys. Was wondering how to tell mp9 from mpi with the exeption of the cat and lambda sensor and bigger flywheel. Reason being that i am starting to think i may have baught a molested mpi 1.4i citi sport and not mp9. The year moddel tells me that is when vw went from mp9 to mpi but wich i have is a mistory. Reason for the question being mine has the airbag and might be decated with mp9 standard manifold. Is there any other way to tell one from the other like no on the ecu :bang: or some other way other than to get a diagnostic done. If so please post so this could be put to rest once and for all......

Despite the mangled English I managed to make out what you are asking.

Standing under correction, this is what I know to be the main differences between MPi and MP9;

MP9: no cat and made by Bosch
MPi: cat and O2 sensor, made by Shurlok.

MP9 can be flash tuned and immobilizer can be defeated.

MPi can be thrown into the bin or used as a decoration or a fancy paper weight.

Lol

Bosch and shurlock ecu is the easiest identification.. somebody could have rewired an mp9 ecu and left everything else (cat, lambda etc) as is..?

If it has a cat it is MPI. Mp9 versions never had a cat so no lambda sensor.

If the car was purchased less than 6 months ago, then let the dealer sort it out first.

Strange thing though, no cat and no o2 sensor, not even the plugg. Guess it was removed because of the o2 fault and replaced by the mp9 manni.
