Velocity stack vs cone filter
Hey guys
I was considering to put on either a cone filter or a velocity stack on my mk1 golf carb... from research I conducted i found that cone filters dont really offer much of an improvement in power or induction sound of a carb setup but i can't seem to find any information on a stack setup on a carb...does a stack make any form of improvement regarding induction sound or power gain?
Thanks in advance

Re: Velocity stack vs cone filter
No effect ,
Tried both on my Mazda carb , Differences from the original filter was:
Cone - Could ear the carb sucking in the air, no performance gain - but still is filtering the air.
Velocity Stack - Carb sucking in air was louder , no performance gain and no filtering what so ever.
In short - Without adjusting the carb for the extra air - there's no performance gain.
You'll never get that throttle body sound from a carb.

Re: Velocity stack vs cone filter
Both do nothing, at the end of the day it's still a carb engine that will take in as much air as the little plenum can pull

Re: Velocity stack vs cone filter
Hey guys. I've been looking for information all over and came across this thread locally.
I drive a 1.4i citi golf and I'm looking to get abit more sound out of it. I am currently using a air filter but I'm looking for something louder. Would a velocity stack be the way to go for now?
In future I would like to run abf with throttles but I'm looking for a solution in the meantime.
Thank you

Re: Velocity stack vs cone filter
Hi
In order of the quickest, cheapest.
1. Detrumpet MP9 airbox
2. Drop in K&N filter with box detrumpet
3. Cone filter + SS pipe - Cheap Chinese Filter or Genuine K&N , BMC etc...
4. Not a Fan of the Velocity stack for a daily - they have no filtering whatsoever - It's needs to be mounted in front of the bumper in order to get the Velocity stack effect - Faster you move forward , the more the air rushes through it.

Re: Velocity stack vs cone filter
Thank you very much for the detailed information. I will definitely looking into de-trumpeting my airbox.

Re: Velocity stack vs cone filter
And you have to do well above 200km/h to see any effect from it.
