Hi
I have had quite a few issues with my Tiguan. At the moment I have a whole lot of repairs to do to the engine as the timing kit failed resulting in bent valves etc.
My question is, instead of paying the money on rebuilding the engine. Is it worth it to rather replace the engine with something else?
I was thinking something in the lines of a GTI 5 motor. Does anyone know of someone had done this before? And what changes will have to be made Re. Transmission etc?
Thanks in advance.

I can guarantee you it will cost a hell of a lot more doing a motor swop to what you are thinking of than it will be to rebuild the original motor.

Agree, Motor swop's these days is not as easy as you think not like the good old 90's , best/cheapest would be to get a import motor , After that is a rebuild
mechanical part is easy , getting electronics to integrate with the rest of the car is the hard part.

Thank you for the feedback so far. I was quoted 28K girl the repairs. Will see what the price of engine swop works out to.

If a motor swop is still an option the only feasible way to do it would be to get a smashed car as a donor.
Consider this,
Engine
Transmission (bell housing bolt pattern is different to the original engine)
Engine harness
ECU
Transmission ECU (DSG)
Driveshafts (new transmission has different diameter flanges)
Brakes and front suspension (the GTi has beefier control arms than the smaller models and larger diameter brake discs with bigger calipers. This stuff is there for a reason)
If the donor is based on the same platform many of the parts would be a direct fit without needing any changes. Sadly the end result would probably not be the same as a factory built 2.0 TFSI Tiguan.
Interesting as a theoretical experiment, but at the end of it all, refer to modding rule no1: don't build what you can buy.

Yeah you can just buy a new charger if that one is rekt, if they don't have stock look at importing a new charger.

Find the same engine at a scrapyard and swop.
