Golf 3 GS conversion

Post by SDAYA »

Hi guys

I currently have a 95 GS thats 1600 carb

I'm considering doing a conversion cause this motor sucks. It's slower than a snail and not really economical.

I wanna put something like an 2L 8V with a management.

Anyone can tell me more or less prices to conversion with labour?

Or would it be more feasible to just redo the motor and then maybe modify so it give a bit better power and hopefully more economical.

I dont expect it to be like a real ferrari, just something where I can have fun.
Right now I'm forced to tell people my car is low and that's why it's slow - back in my mind I know that it's just cause this 1600 is a donkey.

Where, who can I maybe speak to that can potentially action either of the two options?

Thanks in advance

The Mk3 body is heavy , Even with the 2l 8v they not that fast/quick but will definitely be progress from the current 1600. My buddy had the GTI we needed airport lenghts to get the thing to 200 km p/h.

You wont get far with a 1600 in that body.

My friends GTi was quick

But he knife edged the crank.

I'm not saying I wanna go out and race the car.
I just want a improvement

I had a 84 GTi
Standard with wheels and Coilovers and I loved it
It was nippy and was a lot of fun to drive.

If I can at least get that sorted of performance or a bit more actually and I would be happy.

I did a 2.slow swap and regret it. Bad buyers remorse. From a carb model you gonna need major changes. Brakes is not that important as the stock mk3 brakes are good with my swap. But as mentioned above you got loads to do. Rather save up and buy a beater

What motor and how long would it take?

What did you swap from?

And why the regret? Wasn't a major difference?

There was a noted difference sure. But as some mentioned a mk3 body is heavy. And mine had much more added weight with sound deadening, boot install, heavy seats, BIG battery relocated to the boot etc so this makes her more slower! She goes yes but not worthy of money spent on her. Got about R20k into the motor and she sucks! Couldve went ABF and happier but 8v parts are everywhere. Irrespective you said you will come see me sometime. Looking forward to it
