Dyno Figures

Post by FrAnKeNsTeIn »

Good Day People,

I need a bit of advice or your opinion.

I bought a vw aba motor from someone and then fitted it in a velocity, the specs are as follow:
Engine has been stroked to 2.1L
TDI crank
2.6 caravelle pistons
gasflowed head
276 cam and adjustable vernier pulley
50mm exhaust with 2 boxes.
ff gearbox.

I ran the car on the mp9 system with a 2l flash.

I then sent the car in to have a dictator fitted at a well known and reputable guy, and got it back this morning after waiting almost a week for the car
Looking at the dyno sheet, it only managed to make 75kw. Is this the correct number or was I just to excited?

And please, I am not bad mouthing the tuner.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Seems right considering you at highveld making 75kw @ 5500 ATW?

Ask your tuner why is the car limiting @ 5500 and the power dieing a 5000 already?

The power you looking for is after 5500.

Thanks,
Any suggestions on increasing the power? I was expecting close to 100kw with those mods.
Currently i am struggling to choose between going the turbo route or staying Na.

Not sure what brand of Cam you using but there are brands to stay away from , Esta's is a good make.

Getting 100kw ATW wont be easy but is possible.

Next step would be branch and 63mm exhaust, 288 Esta Cam, I suspect your exhaust system is the reason for the power dieing after 5000rpm. Is it free flow boxes?

Limiter seems a bit on the low side.

I know a guy with almost the same mods and his rpm limit is set to 7800 rpm.

If I remember correctly he made 101 kw.

Power seems decent for your mods. What map is on the mp9, a custom or just one of those polocup maps? If its the latter then there might be room for improvement there. Also a 276 is a bit on the mild side for a 2.1.

Says it has dictator on now. Seems low for those mods and you definitly need to rev it higher than 5500.

How does the car feel on the road? Is there any power difference from the mp9 2lt map?

Sybie uses his Dyno primarily as a tuning tool so the figures may look low (stingy Dyno), best would be to do a power run on another Dyno and see if the figures corresponds - I always used KAR performance to do power runs to get and idea of how much power I gained or made after modifications - as far as Dyno readings go KAR gives pretty much the same readings as HM Auto or 8VPerformance for instance.
Current rides:

VW Golf - 78 LS 2.0 8V 4-door (2.1 ABF with throttles in progress)
VW Golf - '08 Citi Storm - 1.4 for now
Hyundai - 1.4 Getz (daily)

They loaded a polo cup map on to the mp9.
Car pulls you more back into your seat after fitting the dictator, but dies down it the high rpm range. Car is also revving easily past 7000, don't know why they only ran it to 5500rpm on the dyno.

As the guys said maybe dyno somewhere else and see your figures. Im pretty sure that was a very stingy dyno.
