Vw citi excessive breathing

Post by jaqu3s »

Good day im in desperate need of some advice if there is any slim toppies that can assist it would be much appreciated. My 1989 vw citi 1.3 carb smoke alot out of the breather pipe coming out of the tappet cover causing the the car to die as soon as you connect the breather to the intake. If been told by a mechanic the the piston rings migth be done or its a valve problem. So my mechanic said that the only way is to fix the engine is to do a complete recon and he qouted me R12 000
So my question is is there any way to determine what exactly causes the smoking problem?

Thanks for the reply,do you think it would be cheaper to replace the engine.I dont want to spend R12000 on a engine rebuild i only paid R20 000 for the vehicle i want to get the car up and running as cheap as possible to sell it?

I stripped a perfect running 1300 motor to build Dean’s 16v.

I have the following available if it can help you.
Head and cam ( head job could cost as much as R2000 )
Rods plus pistons ( new set of rings would be advised )
Crank plus bearings

All standard size.

You can have it for R500-00.
