Yo fellow Vdubberz..
Need advice on a engine swap I wana do, I have MK1 1.3 Carb motor I would like to swap for EFI motor.
Typical places like Mike's place and Fit engines don't or rarely have 1.6i or 1.4i motors.
They all only 2l 8v motors and they selling them cheap.
Obviously being 2l motors in this economy and petrol price is in low demand.
But I would like to know if i do decide to go 2l, would a management make it run lighter?
Or is my best bed rather having the 1300 motor overhauled.
I do crave a bit of power though what's why the 1.6i need.
I'm not necessarily willing to buy from private sellers as you don't really know what's wrong with the motor or what's been done to it and mike's and fit engines supply motors at under 100k km
Can a 2l 8v runner lighter on petrol with management?

I depends on the tuning of the management and driving style. I know many people who have done 2.0 8V swops and if driven carefully, they can all easily get better fuel consumption than the 1.3/1.4/1.6 motors that were in the cars previously.

Re: Can a 2l 8v runner lighter on petrol with management?
my 1.3 used to get me 7.5 in town and down to 6.5 open road, it also cost me 15k odd to over haul.
my 2.0 (mp9) gets 7.5 - 8 in town and cost me 8k to fit
if you gas it- it will be a bit heavy but you will be speeding too
The old man has a 1600 hm block with 1.6i head and mp9 he manages 6.5 in town driving like, well an old man
get a motor direct from an importer, they normally have some form of startup or low milage warranty.

Well this all depends on how you drive. Yes I agree the 1.3 is seriously lacking power so your best bet would most likely be the 1.4i or the 1.6i depending on how you drive.

Strangely the bigger older engines like the HM and HV is a lot more economical than the 1.3's - I think they are a lot less stressed, getting along on smaller throttle openings. I think you can bank on the 2.0l being the same

Yeah the 1.3 you have to really work the revs to go anywhere.
