Engine won't crank

Post by RGT »

Hi guys
I'm driving polo classic 2000 on a 2l 8v with Dicktator Management, my car is driving great, but now suddenly it won't crank when I start it, but when I use a cable on the ignition solenoid straight to the battery + the an the engine cranks and starts, and idle just until I want to Rev it a bit than it dies. I tested the cables from the ignition they are all alive and well, but there is no power on solenoid cable.
Why die when I want to Rev, and why won't it crank when I use the key to start it?
Help guys pls, I'm not very mechanical
Thanks in advance.

I'm also considering to rather go to PoloCup ECU, and leave this dictator management... Is it wise or not?
In terms of reliability.,.

Leave the Dicktator alone, that is not your problem.

From your explanation, I’m thinking the problem is power related and or some bad earth wires somewhere. You say all wires were tested and are alive and well. How did you test? Did you short the main battery wire to the solenoid pin to engage solenoid and short the battery pin and starter pin on solenoid (the two bolts with the 13mm nuts) to crank motor for start?

There is a starter relay at the fusebox and has probably failed. Check also that all fuses are healthy.

PapaJo is it possible for Dictator to Detune by itself? Or is it a matter of once you did a proper tune it is done, and it will remain like that, unless you tune again?

It is very unlikely that the ecu will loose its tuned map.

Did you check for spark on the sparkplugs?

Ok, you have spark and fuel. Have you checked that timing marks are still correct?

If all are correct, do you have access to the Dicktator software on a laptop and a usb to serial cable to connect to your ecu?
