Best cam for 2l ady
Hi,
I have a golf mk1 Velociti. I recently done a 2l 8v (ady) conversion.
I have done my exhaust. 1 box powerflow system. 50mm until the box and 57mm after the box.
I'm using a 2L polocup ECU.
That's all.
I recently done a power run and the outcome was 102kw and 204nm at Zeeline in CPT.
I really want to put a cam in but I'm not sure about the size. All I know is that it's definitely going to be a Estas billet cam. I want a continuous gain (if that's possible). I don't want to have lag and only start really moving after 4500rpm. (Please keep in mind that I haven't done any head work)
Another question, will a g-cam be any good?
One last question, what are the specs of a ady cam?
TIA

Re: Best cam for 2l ady
If you want nice gains and not losing too much bottom grunt, go for a 276 duration cam and do some port and flow headwork.

Hey Bud. Best to go with a 276 Estas Cam as well as fuel economy is not bad.

Thanx guys, I can only afford one thing at the moment. Either the cam or the port and polish. Which should I do first?

Re: Best cam for 2l ady
polocup ECU map was written for a 288 cam. So that would be the correct cam if it really is a polocup ecu with it's original map.
The rest will be a compromise.
Of all the cams I ever tested a 282 was the worst thing ever. killed a lot of bottom end with the least gains on top. I think it's the worst compromise ever.
Maybe it's a different animal at the coast but does not work at the highveld.

Re: Best cam for 2l ady
In that case you have two choices, keep motor as it is currently or save up and buy cam and do head work and then fit it.Walter White wrote: ↑Thu May 31, 2018 6:17 amI understand that but remember there's no head work or anything and I don't want to lose bottom end

Re: Best cam for 2l ady
If anything it should be better running the 276 Cam versus the standard Cam, Since the polocup ECU is setup for fueling a 288 cam right , using a standard means then It's over fueling on top, not?
I recall Nellis stating that the stock 2lt 8v CAMS have a 258 Duration but lift differed slightly.
To reap the most out of the setup , head work is a custom tune is required.

Re: Best cam for 2l ady
288 All day everyday !! I don't know why you stressing about headwork- remember at this point head work will be a nice to have, most of the new power you will find from a port/polish and cam will be because of the cam. Just fit the cam already, it will be decision that you won't regret it.

Re: Best cam for 2l ady
So I finally got my cam guys
Going to put it in later on. Just a quick question... Can I use my standard pulley? Or should I put on a vernier?
Please keep in mind that I have a Polo cup ECU.
Thank you

Use the std pulley unless head was skimmed down. Did you get a 288 cam?Walter White wrote: ↑Sun Dec 09, 2018 5:52 am So I finally got my cam guys

I got a 276 estas cam. There was no skimming and no head work done so I guess standard pulley it is.
Spares are all closed so I guess I'll do it next weekend

Re: Best cam for 2l ady
Panic commented before that the Polocup ecu is for a 288 cam. You will need to get a custom map then to get it properly tuned and running on a 276.

Re: Best cam for 2l ady
The Polocup is for 288 right but a 276 came should be better than the standard cam and cause less over fueling isn't it?

Re: Best cam for 2l ady
No, the amount of fueling the ecu sends is meant for the 288 cam like the guys said. So now you have a smaller cam so fueling will be to much for that cam inturn car overfueling when you put your foot down. You will also see smoke and plugs might get wet at some point

Re: Best cam for 2l ady
Fueling is determined and supplied by the ecu and its programmed values, not the cam or cam duration.

Re: Best cam for 2l ady
Yeah I understand what you saying but what I'm saying is that the 276 is bigger than the standard cam so in theory it shouldn't over fuel that much. To be honest it's not smoking a lot and I done a service recently and the plugs weren't that bad so I'm doubting my ECU to be honest because a standard cam and 288 is a big difference but from what I read Allens boxes are reliable and decent (the 1 I have)...mike65 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 09, 2018 8:29 pm No, the amount of fueling the ecu sends is meant for the 288 cam like the guys said.
