MK3 GS '95 DOESNT START ON COLD MORNINGS

Hi Guys

I've never had issues with my car starting at any time but lately with this cold weather it doesn't start in the morning.

The engine swings but doesn't ignite?

When I get home in the afternoon and the weather is a bit warmer then the car starts with no issue.

It's like two different cars.

Any help please? Image

I'm not familiar with the carburetor in the Mk3. Does it have a manual or automatic choke?

Manual choke

I have to pull it out and push it back

So take the aircleaner off and see if it actually closes the flap in the carb when you pull it.
Oh and get some quick start from a spares shop. Spray it into the air intake one morning. If it fires it is fuel related. If not then spark related.

I pressume its the "perculator" (device mounted infront of the head/tappet cover that feeds from the fuel to itself, has a return, and then feeds the carb).

I had a similar issue prior to the swap when I was still running carb

So yesterday in the afternoon I tried straying the car

It swinged and ran for like 2 sec each time and died out until it just swang

Not sure what the issue was

Cause each time it started I tried either accelerating or pulling the choke out but it still died

Will attempt today cause weather is better

Car never gives me trouble in the heat ..
Only when it's cold

Does a battery make nonsense during cold?

But then motor will not swing over.

Did you follow panic’s advise as mentioned earlier i a post?

Also check for vacuum leaks on intake and carb base plate rubber and your fuel supply to carb.

i'm just saying its easy to check the battery... I've had many batteries fail during winter thats why i invested in a battery charger.

Of course, batteries fail more often in winter, but one of the first symptoms of battery failure is that the engine swings too slowly, or not at all. If the engine swings normally but doesn't ignite, like the OP wrote, then there is no need to check the battery. But suit yourself...
