You can use clips from another fuel rail of other cars and make your own brackets. Should workout cheaper than another fuel rail.

Re: 9a and pl mk1 conversion possible
Fuel rail fitted with cable ties for now. Need to get a sample or try and make my own for the fittings

Taking car tomorrow for exhaust and cleaning it at home... All tuners closed for the holidays will get idle screw sorted and back window and fuel rail fitting before she goes for dyno... Cant wait to race in the new year.

Post pictures how you are keeping fuel rail in position now for some suggestions. Work internet blocked video streaming and cannot see videos.

Re: 9a and pl mk1 conversion possible
Get piece of 3mm flat bar at your hardware shop and bend it over the fuel rail and bolt down to the bolts between cylinders 1&2 and cylinders 3&4 and problem solved. Serve the same purpose as the cable ties, but more sturdy and secure

Re: 9a and pl mk1 conversion possible
Thanks to PapaJo for the assistance and Abel from Viper for my branch... Was getting car tuned and branch that i had cracked so unable to tune car to a T...
Car running quite strong for a standard motor... However still running rich... Once this branch goes in we can hopefully get the tuning sorted...
So inlove, this branch is beautiful... Had the viper on the 8v as well and don't mind spending for a quality product.

Is tuner going to make a proper bracket for the cable tied fuel rail too, when he tune this time?

Re: 9a and pl mk1 conversion possible
Hi jo,
Car is running great only a road tune done haven't done any power runs on dyno yet. Drive the car after work and weekends and sometimes to work as well.
Afr's look great unfortunately haven't had any drag events this side as they all rained out, but cant complain.
Car has been tuned on map and not tps.
Next drags are Easter at the coast however wont be able to make that. Tuner however want's us to go.
Next steps now is to get car looking good again so respray and interior are planned, maybe a color change.
Got a flowed head with cams and throttles on the way should be here next week, got them for a bargain i think. It's not 8vp head so lets see what ot does. And the cams are bigger then recommended for a 16v (288) but believe it should work with the throttles.
Will be doing the next conversions in stages to see difference in power and drag times instead off all at ones. I know throttles might not make good power since we inland but we will see and they look good and sound great, so if it makes the same power as the standard intake i will be keeping them.
Thanks everyone for the assistance and motivation given along the way.
Oh and my 3rd gear syncro has been broken since i got the car 10/11 years ago so it grinds when going in so that will finally be fixed with a shim job as well.

Re: 9a and pl mk1 conversion possible
288 cams will need some rev’s and you will need to look at long ramtubes to get the torque right on motor. If the head and throttles you are getting is with the adaptor plate on head and not the Rowland manifold, you have some room for longer than 60mm ramtubes. I’ve got the Rowland manifold with 60mm ramtubes and have less than 20mm clearance between the top radiator hose and no:1 ramtube with the long mk2 radiator fitted. Radiator is also moved 30mm forward and sqeezed in under slamtray.

Re: 9a and pl mk1 conversion possible
We will se where they make power... Sarel is supplying filters, adapter and ram tubes as well as the water flange to reroute water from the front.
How much revs will be needed to make power and what can be done to rev that high safely?
Wanted to go turbo but not sure on pricing and a bit worried about reliability. Maybe end of the year depending on how the new conversion goes.
What's the feeling of nitrous with throttles and should one go for a 75 shot or more as well as what is needed to run it safely... Believe i read about ceramic coating the pistons.

Re: 9a and pl mk1 conversion possible
The setup determines where the best power will be made. Many variables, cam duration, cam lift, centre line and overlap between the two cams, valve sizes and flow characteristics of head and ports, compression ratio, size throttles, length and shape of ramtubes is all affecting where the power will be made, just to mention a few as there is more.

288 duration cams not recommended for turbo route. StdABF cams work very good.

Re: 9a and pl mk1 conversion possible
Ok noted... The cams will only be used for the throttles...
What size should i ask Sarel to make the trumpets? These are 43mm throttles and also which size injectors would be perfect?
I know i know... Please bare with me im still learning

Re: 9a and pl mk1 conversion possible
I would suggest to fit throttles first and measure how much space you have. Then speak to Sarel and inform him of what is installed and he will recommend the length tobe used. He has done the homework and build quite a few abd should give you the best option and advise there.
I’m using 20vt 317cc injectors. 240cc should be fine too. Go with your current size injectors and check the duty cycle on them as a baseline as that will indicate how much spare duty cycle you have now to determine what size you would need.

Re: 9a and pl mk1 conversion possible
Hi everyone,
So just an update... As it seems quiete in here.
Been a heavy couple of months.
Finally got the car to the dyno after the last drags in june where car ran a 16.5 with a fuel leak and a messed up map after the coil died and we just changed the charge time (never knew this changes your whole map) car seemed less agressive. Was however happy with the time as engine was standard driving uphill as our drag strip in Windhoek has a hill the last 150-200 meters.
What has been done:
1. Fitted new head done by collin clay bought of the forum with 288 estas cams.
2. Fitted honda radiator (removed due to car running hot did nit change the blades of the universal fan and ran it in pull config with blades that were actually in push config (realised too late).
3. Re fitted standard radiator, busy building heat shield until i find a better solution regarding a shorter radiator in height that is longer in length in order too cool car as well as stop itbs from getting too much heat.
4. Fitted itbs with 120mm velocity stacks made by 8v performance (had clearance issues and took a while to cut the bonnet... Lol, wasn't too happy about it... But F it it's a drag car)
5. Lota and lots of tlc and testing to get it done, wiring still needs cleaning up.
6. Bought AFR gauge and fitted it for road tuning before getting car to dyno.
7. Fitted alarm with shock sensor to stop them buggers from getting to my battery.
8. Fitted battery to trunk to make clearance for honda radiator.
Next up:
1.Transfer engine and gearbox to new body that has been sprayed and heater removed as this is not used.
2. Find radiator alternative.
3. Fit new coilovers.
4. Maybe add ICE again or put ICE in polo.
5. Get it ready to drag in Feb.
Pictures dyno graph: still some find tuning needed.
Dyno power comparison on same dyno shortblock with 83.5mm pistons 288 estas cam with stock head and stock headers.
Car: sleeper no more...
Heat shield to be fitted two aluminium plates with spacer between them to allow for air cooling...

Lol jo,
Yes size quite big... Busy sourcing a scoop from a nissan np300 as it seems the right size...
Hoping to get it too tuner again while I'm there so we can fine tune to get the most out of the motor...
Thing pulls insanely well spinning through the gears with semi tyres on...

Re: 9a and pl mk1 conversion possible
Are you going to drop AFR at low rpm? Scoop and high speed force more air in, check that you don’t lean out at high speed and rev’s.
