I changed my carburetor base plate as it was cracked and thought I might do a service on my carburetor, everything went smoothly till I wanted to set the carburetor. It takes a while to start, high revs, idle is up and down never constant, there's a lag when I press the accelerater pedal and it just doesn't sound to good.
Any help will be great thanks.

Re: Vw mk1 Citi 1.4 carburetor problems
Put some silicon on the base plate(Top and bottom). They leak even if they are new. Over tightening them does not help. Good luck

Re: Vw mk1 Citi 1.4 carburetor problems
I've done the silcone on the top and bottom of the base plate and it did seem to help, but idleing is still a problem, been setting it and can't get it right. It will drop in revs and almost die and then idle at 1000rpm all smooth and slowly go up to 1300/1500rpm and this happens when I come to a stop and when I start it

Fuel softens the RTV and the globe of gummy glue break off and travel all over the place inside the carb and engine causing all sorts of trouble. It's like if JUJU became president.
Go see a carb specialist or at least someone recommended that's good with mechanical fuel systems and let them see what you did wrong assembling the carb.
You have most likely plugged a vacuum line in wrong or left one off that's necessary to make it work right. You may also have cocked up something to do with the jets.
Anyhow time to pay money to learn something.

First step would be to start a separate thread with this question and avoid thread hijacking some one else's queryvkatlego2@gmail.com wrote: ↑Wed Nov 10, 2021 3:10 pm Hello guys
