16V Intermediate Shaft Pulley

Post by Mk1Crazee »

Hey gents.

Currently doing a 16V conversion for my lil brother. We're using his 2E block and a 16V head we picked up (ABF).

The 16V Intermediate Shaft is not easy to find and the ones that are available are just unreasonably price due to it being scarce here.

We managed to get the 16V Intermediate Shaft Pulley.

I have already modified the current 8V shaft pulley to drive the dizzy which drives the oil pump as we wont be using the dizzy (you know why)

My question is.. Can the 8V shaft be modified to fit the 16V shaft pulley?

I need advice

yes it can,the 8v shaft has a half moon keyway where the 16v is some what straight, just give the pulley and shaft to a engineer and ask them to machine the keyway straight, ive done it more than once, never had a issue.

You need to cut a bit off the end as the protruding part of the shaft is too long and modify the keyway as mentioned. In a pinch Inhave done both those with a hacksaw and a flat file.

Thanks guys! i will attempt to do it myself as i have an extra 8V shaft.

One question.. by using the 2E block and ABF head, how will this affect the CR? FYI it will be N/A and pistons are stock

The compression ratio will be perfect for boost.
That combo will have an 8.5:1 comp ratio.

If you want to keep running NA, get 16V pistons.

i see. Will it be worth it to change the pistons if in future my brother would want to FI?

is there a way to compensate for the CR using the stock pistons?

The only way is to fit the correct pistons if you want the normal 16V NA compression ratio.

Uhm it is not naturally aspirated vs fuel injection.
It is naturally aspirated vs turbo or super charging.
So unless he plans to boost the car he has to use 16v pistons or it will be missing lots and lots of ponies.

This is why I hate acronyms. FI has never meant boost in my life but ok we are on the me page then. So yes if that is the plan then leave the 8valve pistons.

There are cheaper options than ABF Pistons.

You can look at using Nissan CA18 or even BMW 328 pistons - cant remember all off them but do a search as it has been discussed in the past.
