Gearbox Question - Caddy PV

Post by michaelfalconer »

This might sound like a bit of a stupid question, but so far I haven’t been able to find any answers by searching the interwebs.

So I have 2 Caddy Panel Vans, one is an 2006 the other is a 2010. Both bought from the same dealer at the same time and both are 1.6 petrol.

After going through the 06 death trap (short bolts on all the major securing points and various other things), I’ve picked up that getting to 120 on both is a bit of a struggle, and the revs are at around the 4200 mark. I’ve been driving diesels for most of my life, but these petrol things just don’t seem right. And it’s a battle to get to 140 after that.

So is there a way I can tell if the boxes are wrong on these 2 as that’s the only other thing I can think of? As I’ve seen many of these Panel vans on the road, and they fly.

Box numbers that I can see:
2006 box:
ES GX2 2
0AJ 301 103 A
0AH 301 103 B
0AJ 301 103 B

2010 box:
WW0 4
0AH 301 103 B

Thanks
Mike

Hi guys, I know it’s a bit of an old topic, but I’m still battling to figure out if these boxes are correct.
One thing I managed to find out is that the 2006 must have a 1.4 gearbox, as I have eventually noticed the wording marked in very dull marker - VW Caddy on the top of the bell housing, which makes me believe that this gearbox has been changed.

Everything on the box is fine except 5th, so can someone point me in the right direction on what parts to get to change just the 5th gear? I’ve been looking on the interwebs and there’s a good few guys showing how to do it and what parts to get, but everyone has different parts, nothing consistent. And everyone is overseas, and no one gives a part number that I can use here with my local spares place.

Hi Mike,

The gearbox code 0AH 301 103B is correct, same on my van. Revs sit at 3750 at 120km and 4100 at 140km.
