Hi guys, please help
2011 polo vivo trendline 1.4.
There is a leak on the power steering boots and i have to put in ATF power steering oil (the red one) everyday especially if am driving local. before this leak, it showed a power steering light and the steering became stiff for about 2 minutes and i drove it for 4 weeks. on the 5th week i took it for service to a person i know around town, then i drove for 3 days and it was leaking on the steering boots.
did this occur because i did not service my car at VW dealership/ VW specialist?
i want to know maybe how much will it cost me to fix it?
do i have to take it to VW dealership?
is it an easy thing to fix in such that i can buy parts and ask any mechanic to fix it for me?
please guys help, i know nothing about cars.
Thank you,
Lumko

Re: polo vivo power steering leak
most likely your steering rack, although i though vivo using electric not hydraulic pump
either u recon it cheap option- +- R2000
or replace with a new rack R3000+ if is the rack thats the issue

Re: polo vivo power steering leak
Vivo should be the same electric setup as a normal 9N polo, with the fluid bottle under the battery. If so, stop using red ATF and get the proper green fluid from Goldwagen before you stuff the pump up, the pump is twice the cost of a new rack.
As for the leak, its probably the rack end seals. Quotes I got last year were around R5k for a recon/replacement rack with fitment, and most places need the car for a week for some reason.

It is an ingenius solution to a problem that should have never existed in the 1st place...

Re: polo vivo power steering leak
ATF is the incorrect fluid and is probably the reason it is leaking in the first place.
