In the middle of the 1.8 mp9 engine block is a flange with (what I'm told) is a water temp sensor and if it is faulty, causes erratic idling and high fuel consumption.
Can this sensor be tested? As on cold start my 1.8 idles like it has a 276 cam In!

Re: Mk3 golf water temp sensor.
the picture is not MP9 but yes that is where the water temp sender is situated.
you can test it with vcds if you look at the reading blocks to see if it is reasonable
oterwise swop it and see if it makes a difference
