Hi everyone,
Have a '07 Caddy panelvan which has a 1.6 BSF engine with just over 200 000km on the clock.
It struggles to start which I guess is from low compression, will do compression check this weekend.
Question is, can this motor be reconditioned? Some say you can, some say you cannot.
Understand some of block are cast iron blocks and some aluminium, this true? Or are they all aluminium blocks ?
Your input will be highly appreciated.

Re: 1.6 BSF Engine
Appears to be alu in which case you are screwed. But hard starting can be many many things other than low compression on a petrol engine. Does it consume oil?

Next question do you have an EML or yellow engine light shining on the dash with the engine running?
Look like these.

Yes it consumes oil but no excessive smoking and yes the yellow engine light also on

Have the car scanned by a Macky/ sparky.Pvanzanden wrote:Yes it consumes oil but no excessive smoking and yes the yellow engine light also on
That will start you off on the path to work out your problems.
Also get a compression test done. It will tell you the mechanical health of your motor.
