Golf ADY motor stall when warm (SOLVED)

Post by ADZ »

Morning guys I trust everyone is well,

So I've been experiencing some issues with my citi golf (ADY motor Mp9) for the past week. Here's a break down of what I've done so far;

1. 4th Jan - This is when it started could smell abit of fuel, struggled to start so I changed the water temp sensor as I had a spare at home, car was fine for a day then started missing would not rev up when the motor reached operational temp.

2. 5th Jan - Took it to a friend of mine who does diagnostics, picked up the map sensor was stuffed, ok so luckily I had one of those at home as well ( I like to keep spares lol) changed it car ran perfectly no issues throughout the weekend.

3. 8th Jan - Car ran without issues to work (Parktown) little traffic no issues. Now this is were I'm confused after work I got onto the highway about 30mins in traffic it starts missing struggling to rev halting every time I accelerate, managed to get the car to my buddy again who now picks up there's no spark on No1 cylinder, on inspection the plug somehow died and the plug wire was broken so I changed all 4 plugs and brand new set up plug leads.

4. 11th Jan - Car has been running well no issues since I changed the plugs and plug leads until the afternoon same situation on my way home from work car is at normal operational temp sitting in abit of traffic and it starts again, struggled to drive it but once traffic had cleared it missed for a bit then was back to normal.

I now have no idea what is going, I would really appreciate any feedback you guys may have.

thanks

Hey Bud after my last post the car ran well for 3 weeks then it started again only happens if I'm standing in traffic and the motor is up to normal temp, I've now swapped out the fuel relay which has had no change.

Checked the coil no visible sparks shooting out when idling.

Last night it was idling very rough could not rev up so I unplugged the map sensor and it revs up clean put it back and it starts missing and spluttering so looks like I will have to get another map sensor( the one I had on was from goldwagen), strange thing is the car is not heavy on fuel but could be that the map sensor is busy failing but instead of over fueling its now running lean.

I will keep you posted this evening I will fit another bosch map sensor

Ok cool...
At least you identifying some effect with the map sensor... hope you get it sorted soon.

I'm having a similar issue however is very erratic. Happens when cold and hot. Can't identify any specific scenario.
Also tried most of the things you have including replacing coil but nothing.

Let me know how it goes on your side!

Actually been wanting to check the filter cos its currently an open air cone filter and it looks quite dirty.
Could the filter really cause such an issue?

But will have a look at the fuel rail also.

Thanks.

Except if it is for your golf there is nothing in common between the managements and yours is now mapped on tps not MAP anymore.
You Really should at some point get a cablemto connecte to the dicktator and learn to look at least at the basics.
I can show you if you bring a laptop and cable

Hi Panic would you please give me your thoughts/input from what I've described, what could be the issue with my citi?

Don't know. You have checked all the things it can be. Plug in a vcds and see what readings then manifold pressure sensor is actually giving. Also check what the fueling does for which you will need a load dyno and an a lambda gauge

Yeah I know it's not related to Map... lol.
I actually got the cable and downloaded the software. Just need to come past so you can show me what to look at.

Problem is is that its so intermittent and since diktator doesn't store codes or errors it makes it even more difficult to isolate.

Car runs beautifully most of the the time but every now and then it stresses me out and it usually happens in the most dodgiest parts of jhb which makes matters seem alot more worse than it is.. lol
Also the read on why I haven't called you about it cos I can't show you the issue... Murphy's Law!

I will what's app you to arrange some time when you avail cos I also need you to double check those mounts if they still need adjusting or not.

Ps... sorry for the hijack Adz.

It runs a cam so cammed motors will often just take a little stumble for no good reason at all.

Hey Guys so turns out the wiring from the map sensor and injectors had become brittle and hard and one of the map sensor wires broke off touching an injector wire causing a short.
