Hi Guys ,
I recently purchased a 1998 Polo Classic . I have been told that the engine in this car is not an original Polo engine but from a Golf 1 of 2 , I am not sure . This is an image of the engine , can anyone tell me what engine it is ?
I have been having some issues with it recently , It seems to splutter a lot once it gets warm and cuts out every now and then . I replaced the spark plugs and leads but has not helped . I was looking the other day and there is a pipe that comes from the brake booster to the side of the fuel injector . The pipe does not fit properly and has been taped up to make it fit . Does anyone know what this pipe is for and what it does . Would this cause the issues I have been having .
You can also see it on the first image , the black pipe behind the fuel injector is the one that goes from the brake booster.

The pipe that's taped up is the brake booster vacuum hose, if it leaks your brakes will feel crap and your idle with be erratic.

Not sure what the supposed issue is with the engine as that is what they had in. And yes it is the same range of motors found in citi and mk3 of those years.
The taped up thing is a vacuum valve and if that leaks it could raise the idle and mess a bit with the management what it reads in vacuum.
You can buy that pipe from goldwagen or at least the valve with a piece of pipe on it to replace the broken section.

That plastic pipe from the booster to the check valve are common and rubbish, it will crack just by looking at it.
I replaced mine with a rubber fuel pipe from the spare shop, think it was a 10mm or 12mm inner diameter.
