2010 VW Polo Vivo 1.4 63kw - Engine oil spec

Post by nevashen.maistry »

Hi guys,

My vehicle is up for an oil change, due to high mileage (220000km) I've reduced the interval to 7500km. I've always used the recommended 5w40 fully synthetic oil in my car but have just got a recommendation from Goldwagen DBN to use 10w40 partially synthetic.

Please advise your comments, I'm nervous mixing partially synthetic with the fully synthetic oil in the car,as well as the difference in grade.

Do you have reason to change? No.....stay with what you have been using, the 7500km interval seems over kill though.

He asked me what the mileage of the vehicle was & then said due to high mileage the thicker oil will be better.

Regarding the 7500km oil change internal,I've read that it helps to reduce sludge build up ?

Is the vehicle using any oil currently? The use of a quality oil will not sludge if changed at recommended intervals. If it was a high performance or even diesel it could be argued.....I'd sty with what has worked thus far.

Well done on servicing it on that interval. Your motor will last and thank you for it in time to come. Its the cheapest thing you can do for any engine and it makes the largest impact on lifespan.

I say its not overkill and should be common practice for anyone that wants to make their motor last. If its not consuming any or very little dont change the viscosity.

This

If the car is running as per normal and it's not using more oil.

Just stick to what you have been doing, no need to change.

If really you feel the itch to take extra care of that motor maybe then do service every 10 000km depending on your driving conditions.

Good to see some high mileage Vivos running around!!

There are some articles you can find on the net about pre-maturely changing full synth oils. You actually make an issue instead of improving something.
This is no high performace bmw M motor that is going to chow it's bearings.

Ei btw

These motors are running Synthetic oil, I would still say stick to your regular service intervals (15 000km) not need to change.

Like pic said, you wasting money.....

I have a 2007 1.9 tdi Sportline on 230 000km that gets serviced every 10 000km and only runs 50ppm. Should I extend the service intervals to 15 000km? Book says oil change on 7500km with high sulfer and 15 000km with low sulphur. @panic-mechanic.

A 5w40 is no thicker than a 10w40 at the operating temperature of the car.
