Golf VR6 - enigne mod advice?

Post by GershVRSix »

Hey guys

For a long time I have noticed that the VR6 has never been one of the most popular motors, and not many people knows the ins and outs of it.

At the moment my motor is stripped down and in the process of a overhaul. Once completed, a Dictator 60-2 will be fitted as well.

So is here anyone who has made a few motor changes to gain a bit more power and what was the results?

Please advise

Regards

Check out Yakuza Racers rides threads, he swears by these engines and has had a few, modded too.

just about the only worthwhile mod is to stretch it to a 3l. Then do mild flow and cams.
You don't need the dictator. Stock management will literally cope with anything but huge turbo.

Step 1 (above any other thougjts on modding a VR): have a decent amount of money in your bank account/under your matress/in a shoe box/in your sock drawer.

did a few with cut 264 cams and flowed head and branches, got nice gains with it, and I fit spitronics that give sequential fueling.

So in terms of power output maranou please explain the importance of sequential fuelling and at what kind of gains did the stock management become redundant in it's ability to provide for the engine.
Or did you change the management because there was something wrong with it?

i meant dicktator has batch feuling,as in spray all the injectors every 3 turns where spits do it in batch seqeuntial pairs 1-6,2-5,3-4, most of the times it is becuase the std ecu have problems or the lamda packs up or cam sensor or idel motor as the all cost alot to repair, i know the std mangement also do seqeuntial feuling and works great if all the sensors work together,

if u ad the cams it wants more feuling out top in the rev range, and with spits i can tune on tps to work nice with the added cams.

Sequential fuelling was something designed to clean up emissions. It has no HP advantage. It makes for nice clean emission at idle. At hight rpm the time to spray the injector is so short that they are basically being pulsed all the time anyway which completely negates the advantage of the spray when needed as on idle.
The result is that you need a mechanically bigger injector that is able to deliver a bigger amount of fuel at high rpm.
So of you already have a situation where you need more fuel you can actually get away by simply switching to batch fuelling instead of sequential and have enough injector range to meet the fuelling demand. You also have the advantage on batch of spraying on the back of a clsoed valve every second squirt which assist in cooling the valves down.
So in performance engines batch actually has more advantages than disadvantages. It also requires one less pickup which can go wrong.
But sequential idles real pretty with low emissions.

Fuel economy is perfectly achievable with the correct tuning and the right management even while using batch injection. But hey personal pref ence is personal preference. You use what you like but sequential is not the be all and end all of tuning. Literally it's big gain is clean emissions(very low hydrocarbon count) on idle. So if you have to pass an MOT test it is almost a necessity. I will probably be not around anymore when/if that happens in good ol SA.
