These bottom-ends are as reliable as the tides.

You guys are missing something.

I honestly think the oil pump was on it's way out and I didn't notice it, I have all the gauges in the world to tell me there's an issue but stupid me didn't check mid race.

No idea, I think the lifters are shimmed or something from what I was told. If you have a 288 estas I might consider it.

Ha ha. Yeah having them <> checking them.

I do the same.

My dash literally removes all info (lap times, temps, EVERYTHING), and puts up massive flashing warnings, if pressure falls away. R50 says I'll still miss it. Lol.

16v.. just saying makes funky noises, I wanted to do a 20v on throttles for my ex Jetta, but never got that far

That's bad luck. We have had our fair share of that this year as well... Not fun.

So the sump was dropped yesterday, the oil pump has some wear on the gears, might have been bearing fillings that killed it or it was already damaged. cylinder one bearing turned so the conrod and crank is definitely damaged, the rest looks fine from the bottom but it will all be stripped soon to check bores and pistons.

What oil are you using (not blaming it, just curious)?

Also, my oil pumps have pretty much all had those score marks after some running, so I don't think that's your problem at all.

Fuchs Titan GT1 5w40 been running it for years, in the previous race car too, it came out ok and didn't smell burnt either but It is going in for analysis so that should give a pointer or two.

Could it be the oil pressure release valve that got stuck?

That really doesn't happen as often as people think. But obviously not impossible.

From the comments I've heard about your pics, they agree with me, pump looks fine.

How is your sump baffled? Using the Norbrake sump, or something else?

I don't have pics right now but it was done by 8v performance, split in 3 sections with little flap doors.

One of the guys I race with said I should have probably run with more oil as in overfilled for Redstar probably lap after lap the oil was all on the pickup side in certain sections so it starved cylinder 1 bearing until it gave in.

Don't think that is the case. If sump was baffled correctly the pickup would have had enough oil to pump. Also doubt it would affect cyl 1 if pump was working properly.

Sucks that it had to happen now. But like we said at the track, just go straight to 16v now, even if it means you miss a race. This year is not a championship year for you. Sort out the 16v's teething problems out now so you can get a good shot off the bat next year.
