Hi Guys (Long post & first post )
So im looking to get some direction to fixing my issue (I've listed the issues below). I've got a fuel injected 1.8l Polo Classic with engine issues and would like to know if i need an overhaul or rebuild (not sure about the difference). My budget that I managed to save up is R10 000 to fix the engine so would like some recommendations of possible places i can take it to be fixed within this budget? anywhere around midrand, kempton etc
So here are the issues:
Engine is currently over 300 000Km so it's around 302 000km i think..
There's white/grayish smoke coming from the exhaust when the car starts and smoke gets worse when engine is hot around 90 degrees
when the engine is hot the engine loses power, taking off from gear 1 makes the car shudder/shake and the car eventually switches off(i think this is a fuel pump issue?)
Sometimes the car takes a while to start engine will just crank for a while (Had an AA guy to check that he said its the map sensor or throttle body)
After the car switches off I have to wait for engine to cool down before i can successfully start it again.
Things i've done:
Checked for milky solution in the engine cap to check for a blown head
Replaced coil pack
Changed spark plugs
Cleaned the throttle body with carb spray
Going to buy a new fuel pump unit
My troubleshooting hasn't resolved anything.
I've had a backyard mechanic check all of these issues and he said ive got a compression leak(he didn't do a compression test though), and said need new valve stem seals and piston rings. Overall comment is to do an overhaul which makes sense since the engine is over 300 000KM. So what im asking for help with is do I need an overhaul or rebuild and whats the difference? and can you recommend anybody i can take it to in the R10 000 range if possible? anywhere in Gauteng really im just desperate to get my baby fixed. Thank you in advance

before you do anything else just change the water temperature sender first. Once you do that come back with what of the problems remain.
It sits on the water extension housing on the front of the head, square plug with 4 wires coming out of it.

these can cause a lot of issues.
I wonder if someone around you can assist with a scan.
