16v Motor Check List

Post by GolfGTI »

Good day all.

I am in the early stages of building a 16v 2.0l motor from parts I have accumulated over the years. Only played with 8v so new to 16v.

I have the following:

KR 16v Head. Stock.
ABF intake with original fuel rail and VR6 throttle body.
2E complete 2.0l bottom end. All bearings and bore stock sizes.
ABF 16v Pistons
16v intermediate shaft and all 16v pulleys and 16v dizzy block off.
16v oil pump.
16v Dizzy
Dicktator STD management will be the brains.

Ignoring the usual stuff needed like gaskets and so on, is there anything I am missing? Only gasket I am not sure of is the head gasket. Can I use a standard 2.0l 16v ABF head gasket?

I would like to do a flow on the head and change the cams. What would you recommend? Car is not a daily but also not a going to be a full race job.

I was thinking a decent flow with a 268/276 or 276/276 cam setup?

Bottom end I will keep standard at 2.0l for now. Will only like to balance it and maybe lighten the flywheel a tad.

Then, any recommendations on good head guys in and around centurion?

Thanks.

Make sure that you get the 2L 16V oil pump as it has more volume than the 1800 16V oil pump.

When you mention 16V dizzy block off, do you mean the block off in the block holding the oil gear down that fits the oil pump and are driven by the 16V intermediate shaft?

@panic - Thanks, I have the front crank pulley and Tappet cover. I will see what alternator setup will be easiest when I get to that point.

@PapaJo - Yes, it is the original 16v block off gear that drives the oil pump. I have a brand new oil pump for a 16v, how do you tell the difference between 1800 and 2L pumps? I got it with a whole bunch of parts I bought.

The 16 v pump has taller gears so the body is longer.

:iagree:

The 2L 16V oil pump has part of the shaft machined thinner above the pump casing to clear the 2L crank and rod #4.
