Polo 6R 1.6 Automatic Transmission Problems

Post by JCO »

Hi. I just want some info. When my car is cold, it doesn't take drive but it take reverse, but when I idle 10-15 minutes, it take gears, but it's driving like it slips and I'm driving like it's manual with half clutch, high revs and then it goes again and sometimes it doesn't. It shifts till D5, but the car doesn't move. Can it be the input or output sensor or the torque converter? I've read that on Google

I've asked a VW Expert and he said it's a DSG box, but at VW when I asked for parts the guy told me if it is DSG it must have had 7 gears, but mine only has 6 gears, so he told me it's auto and it has 2 sensors. A input sensor and a output sensor, but I only see one infront

Is a standard Automatic , torque converter unit 6 speed , afaik its a ZF unit.

DSG was only introduced to ZA in the TSi models.

Good day all

I currently own a VW Polo 1.6 Tiptronic with 140000 km on the clock (2007 Model - old shape). I recently started experiencing some trouble regarding the gearbox. Whenever i drive the car, as the gears shift up, I experience an over rev and then a "kick" when shifting between gears. It usually happens during the transition between gear 2 and 3, and gear 3 and 4. Also when engaging reverse, the car will idle for a few seconds then "kick" into reverse.I took my car to VW in Umhlanga and was told that they do not repair tiptronic gearboxes My car is out of warranty and motor-plan, hence i am open to taking it to a reputable mechanic/workshop to get a diagnostic on the gearbox.

Has any one experienced any similar problems with their automatic gearboxes? All suggestions/solutions are welcome :)

I am based in Durban area.

Have them look at the wiring connector at the top of the oil pan. The pins lose contact with age.

You need more than advise.

You need professional help. Take the car in to a reputable VW specialist and ask them to look at the wiring connector on the top of the oil pan for possible poor connections.

Also get a look at the oil quality, if it has suffered and has signs of high heat and clutch slipping, you may end up with a gearbox overhaul being the required solution to get you back up and running.
