converting carb to FI
hi guys
I can please have an estimate cost on how must I would spend on doing this conversion
it is for my caddy 1.6 so it must be a 1.6 head and where can I source everything, management still need to decide on
Thanks

Cool wize move better and cheaper to buy 2l long block that u can pick up second hand R7000.00 management system depends on your needs also R3500 to R5000 and then brakes and cv to match

Re: converting carb to FI
You forgot about fuel pump and making it work even if he goes for the 2L motor. Look at +_R1500 to R2000 for fuel pump, fuel filter and some brackets and piping for this.Carel040 wrote:Cool wize move better and cheaper to buy 2l long block that u can pick up second hand R7000.00 management system depends on your needs also R3500 to R5000 and then brakes and cv to match

OP want to keep it a 1600, sourcing a MP9 head with intake and injectors with the injector wiring and fuel rail with fuel pressure regulator will set him back around R5000 for the lot. Need to get a head gasket set too.
A good start off ball park figure would be +_ R10 000.
There is always some unforseen hidden costs.

No worries. We are all here to learn more on this forum.Carel040 wrote:O yes the smalls I forgot sorry

To add to the above post, 1.6 and 1.8 MP9 heads are the same wrt valve sizes. Some small cam duration differences on certain ones, but not making huge power differences.

Re: converting carb to FI
a 2L might be a better option but how thirsty are they comparing to the 1.6 converted to FI
I will be transferring my 276cam from my currect head to the FI one
how difficult is it to do engine clearance at the traffic dept of I decide to do the 2L way

Re: converting carb to FI
If I may ask, what is the reason to go fuel injection for this specific car?
Sounds like a lot of effort and expenses to change a good working 1600 carb engine to 1600 FI.

Re: converting carb to FI
just have problems lately with the carb, the car still got that second jerk when you leave the accelerator for 2-3 seconds and step on it again, this is after I have sent the carb to a carb shop specialist which I am not satisfied with, I don't want to take it there again
If I can have a good carb place to send the carb in again for now I will do it, anyways the conversion will only be done abit later around October or so

Re: converting carb to FI
I would personally just get the carb fixed. Fuel injection sounds expensive and going to be tricky to get everything to work reliably.

Re: converting carb to FI
1600 carb to 1600 FI is a cake walk. Just go MP9 and ditch the performance mods.
Take the car to Tony at Zabka and let him do it for.
If you want to still run cams etc then aftermarket management is where you need to go.
Go visit Shane at KAR in Kempton park
Converting carb to FI has been done over and over and over again. If you or the mechanic you use are competent there shouldn't be hidden costs or issues afterwards.

Re: converting carb to FI
If @Roadhawg and I could get his old Rat up and running using MIC3 after swapping the standard 1.6 Carb engine out for a 2.0 8v engine and doing an FI conversion.
