Polo Playa 1.6 Cluster (Speedo)

Post by Brat Boy »

Hi Guys

My Polo Playa 1.6i is giving an issue on the Speedo and Fuel Gauge. The Speedo is intermittent and does not give a reading and when it does the needle is jumping. The fuel gauge goes right down when accelerating and then when I leave the accelerator it goes back up. Please can some assist. This started since Saturday. Everything on the car is original still nothing changed engine wise.

Thanks

Not sure if it was you or someone else also posted a fuel gauge issue with 6n polo. Its a fairly common issues but in your case it might be the float itself. Movement on the gauge as you accelerate or brake means float

Can be a bad earth somewhere. I have a issue with my fuel gauge also. Mine is intermittent. Problem is can be the cluster or float. I was speed reeding so didnt see the speedo part. If both having a issue can be cluster also. The facelift polo 6n model are very popular for there gauges jumping around and acting out.

I had the exact same issue on my 1999 Polo Playa. It got worse after a while.... when i switched the car off all the gauges started to jump and would only stop when the ignition is on.

What you need to do is go to an auto electrician and he needs to check the wiring running from the back of the cluster to the fuse box, once he finds the problematic wire he needs to replace that wire with a new one. Problem solved.

It's not a major issue, its just old wires that are making contact with the body or wires in back and causing a short.

Hope this helps.

This is a common problem. When the stepper packs up this happens.

Its expensive fix.

Got one sorted out at S.P.E in durban. Cost R2100

Hi

Removed and tested on another car it works there. But when this went wrong the Petrol Guage also started going faulty.

Thanks

Speed sensor on the gearbox or the wiring to the sensor. I forgot to plug mine back in when i did my motor swap. Speedo didnt work and feul gauge went dilly. My bet is on a break in the wiring, hence the jumpy speedo.

I am currently sitting with the exact same problem, except in my case it is only the fuel gauge.

also the entire cluster goes off when the car is driving but when i switch of the ignition while the light are switched on the cluster box works but there fuel gauge never works, i checked the float as well and it seems to be in perfect working order.

Hi guys, I have a problem with my car polo playa old dash 1.4..
I change my clutch of the car and while busy stripping I forgot to take my positive head off the battery..

Then the positive wire from the starter went against the body and obviously gave a spark..

After I've finished up everything was fine just all my gauges wasn't working at all .

Any advice guys??????

Thanks.
