Intake adapter

Post by Texhex »

Hi Guys. I have a 2e intake manifold that I want to use with a carburettor cylinder head. If I use an adapter to make it work, then the injector will sort of sit in a dead zone/pocket because the head doesnt have the pear shaped ports. Will this affect the performance of the engine?

Yes it will affect performance and fuel consumption. Get a fuel injection head

Problem with this setup is the adaptor need to be around 20mm thick to work, the manifold side ports needs to be keyhole shaped tapering down to oval carb ports on the head side. I've seen it done but a proper FI head will still be the best option.

Weld it up and slot the head.. Price to do that cost more than buying new head

Hi Guys,

Hoping to bring this Topic back alive..

Im currently sitting in the situation where i need an Adapter to be machined/made up with the keyhole slots for ADY FI Intake tapered down to fit an 1.4 BSC Carb Head.

Have had a ADY FI intake on the Carb head for last 8 years with 2x5mm adapters but it doesn't have the keyhole tapering... All was well until i dyno'd last night and we found the adapters to be leaking and sucking in air which we don't want. The vehicle when dyno last made some what decent results with just some head work and non tapered keyhole adapters...

Since im needing to now take the adapters off and realign and seal, was wondering if anyone knows of someone or a company that has done this and made an adapter with the Keyhole tapering? even if it means i must go the 20mm adapter route?
I've done searches on forum but not much solid answers to go by...
Any help would be great as i need to get this sorted ASAP....

I also believe you cannot fit a FI head to the 1.4 Carb Bottem end? is this right?

Thanks

You should be able to fit a 1.4 fi head to bottom end the 1.6 1.8 and 2.0 heads have larger valves that is a problem if i am not mistaken i might be wrong here.

1.4i head will bolt 100 correctly and directly on to carb 1.4 bottom end.
The 1.6 and bigger heads has a too big valve which will interfere on the sleeve and a too big combustion chamber that will drop the cr.

Hi guys I own a golf mk1 1.4 carb and I just bought a brand new fuel injected cylinder head but my intake manifold don't match because of the water port so I wanted to know if the manifold adaptor will work and block off that water port on the intake manifold and will it affect performance???
