Well a VW502.00 is what you need in a full synthetic.

I recommend she'll ultra or Motul x-clean works wonders!

Check your manual for the correct grade/specification oil and then go from there. I like the Shell range of oils, use them in all my cars, differing grades of course...

There is also a Castrol Edge F/S 5W40 and Total Quartz 9000 F/S 10W50, I guess it depends on personal taste. They would not manufacture those if it did not meet manufacturer's specifications so I think Shell, Castrol and Total are all good oils. Years ago I used Total Quarts 9000 F/S in my Citi Shuttle 1.6 and never had any problems, I still see the car everyday and the engine is still fine

From my experience they are much of a muchness, nothing wrong with either but I prefer, for some reason, the shell

Either I'm dealing with a bunch of @holes or I'm stupid.

I phoned a couple of reputable spares shops and not one of them gave me the same answer with regards to oil.

It's either Shell 20w50 red can or Shell 15w40 Yellow can?

Which one guys?

Shouldn't be 20W50, I use that in my MkI and Variant...

Shell HX7 is a semi synthetic which is fine, if you want a fully synthetic then use Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 which I use in my Golf 4 GTI 1.8T 132KW. I do not know why everyone is giving you different answers, I think they give you their personal preference of which oil to use. I have always sticked to the 5W40 or 10W50 oils

Most commonly it's like so:

20W50 in a red bottle is Helix HX3
15W40 in a yellow bottle is Helix HX5
10W40 in a blue bottle is Helix HX7
5W40 in a silver bottle is Helix Ultra

Then you get the diesel stuff and racing stuff which are all pretty much variants of the above mainline ranges.

You should be using either the blue bottle or the silver bottle, the yellow will work but that's the lowest quality oil I'd put in your motor.

That should be perfect, I think the AV version of that oil is VW505 compliant as well which is for most PD TDi engines and VR6's...
