You have a G2 Gersh, the mounts are nothing like the MK1. My suggestion is rather to replace the mounts as they break and use the best quality ones you can afford.

Some guys say that they use G3 mounts in their G2 in the belief that they are stronger etc., but they may require modification to fit correctly. The MK2 and MK3 chassis' are the most similar to each other, as far as engine mounts go.

If I can say one thing about engine mounts is that you went from short block to long block which I've noticed on vehicles like your sometimes causes the engine to become lifted up on the engine side. I'm not sure but I think it may be because the wrong mounting is now installed. A mounting for the 2E digifant G2 might do the the trick if this is the case with your car.

I have seen this on my friends car. He has a Polo Playa that he fitted a ABF to, it was originally a 1.6 which is short block, ABF is obviously a long block.

Thanx for the informative response. My mountings was replaced when I did the motor and haven't given me a day's problems just wanted to ensure when I modify that my mods are supported all over like the suspension etc.

Guys

I have decided to go with ITB's, yes time for some change now. Ok so I already so to say have the 43mm ITB's, my question is what will I need to get to complete this conversion? I am going to do it steadily over time. So no rush, here is what I envisage to get please add any bits that I have missed, I am sure I missed some bits.
43mm Rsi ITB's
Rowland Intake
Crossflow Head
298 estas + vernier
Mike Dixon to flow the head
Head gasket
Dyno Tune

I am going to tune it on petrol only no fuel additives. I most drive over weekends, I know the car will be heavy on fuel with all this but I don't drive much so no worries there. What else would I need?

Expecting about 125kw and 220nm, is this a realistic target?

Nice progress on the list.

Just a suggestion, start a new thread in the rides section and post a link here. Then you can show your build off in detail.

We like rides threads.

Thanx for that Mouse. Will do it on the PC at work tomorrow.

Can anyone tell me till where that 298 will make power in the rev range? Was thinking of asking them to set the limiter at 7000rpm, will this be safe for an 8valve?

That will be fine, I had my rev limiter on 7200 when I had the 298 in my 2.0 Velo, stock hydraulic valve train can handle 7900.

Finally getting to the conclusion part of this build. What size injectors should I run on my crossflow itb set up with 298 estas cam? Almost have all the goods procured. Will do the suspension completely over in this month.

Hi, Guys

Car was eventually done on Tuesday, missed alot of stuff but finally put her on the rollers Tuesday and she tuned and drive as smooth as a standard car at low revs. The idle is much louder but not very lumpy as the car has throttles (sounds like an animal). Btw the cam I bought second hand is estas not the 298 though, thats why I hate buying parts second hand. Its not 288 either its either a 282 or my worst fear 276. the car ended up making 120kw and 201nm. ANYWAY I am happy with the car and the extra power it bring, surprisingly light on fuel as well as I havent really booted her. Maybe il buy a 288 or 298 but I dont think i will im just gona have to be happy and spend on a sprayjob, 15 inch wheels and neaten up interior.

Mechanic advised me to go with 288. He says with 288 or 298 and 0.5mm skim off the head i could get 130kw maybe more. But my mind is telling me you will then lose driveability and reliability brother!

I know you love pics will upload shortly. I have a video I took last night of how the car idle as well.

Regards

Senores

So in the hunt for more power im considering the CA18DET pistons. If i install them will I still be able to run pump fuel only?

Hi, Guys

I hope Panic gets hold of this. What will I need to turbocharge this bugger now? Looking at 180 -200kw and around 350nm.

Awaiting Panics reply will it cost around 20k?
