Citi Golf gearing issue

Post by Naku786 »

:hi: Guys,

A few months ago my releaser bearing gave way (popped & had little bearing babies) after many years of awesome service I replaced it with a WAG item from GW which lasted about a month. I replaced that with an OEM bearing & all is happy for about 2 months now & she started to whine when hot only. Now when my car gets hot it is almost impossible to select 1st & 2nd when stationary only which moving at low speeds, you have fight with the box or give up switch of, select gear start & move which takes time especially in traffic, also when I press the clutch I get this horrid whine (releaser bearing maybe again? but only when car up to full opt temp?)

My clutch also takes almost at the floor when hot & sometimes even with the clutch pressed my car will move forward, this happens randomly but not often.

I feel it could be my pressure plate failing, worn push rod, selector arm cracked, or maybe even less oil in the box or maybe combination of what I said

My clutch/pressure plate is about 4years. What could be the issue?

Sorry for the long post

Did you replace only the bearing? And ScottiesKJ may be on to something, if a pressure plate wears unevenly or is installed incorrectly it doesn't provide balanced pressure which can cause issues...

Yupp just the bearing, is there something that was supposed to be changed as well?

Well this issue only cropped up since my releaser bearing popped a few months ago. Never had this problem before

When the thrust/release bearing went on my Variant, I had the bearing, fork, pressure plate, clutch plate, etc replace but mainly because they looked like this...

The fork was actually bent...

Hmmm ok, the releaser bearing on a citi box (FFZ,DDG etc) is located behind a green (generally) backing plate which looks like so

Image

Once cover removed the bearing fits into a a small housing under the selector looks like this

Pic of bearing

Image

You can do this with the box on, just remove passenger front wheel, jack up. You could loosing the mounting but not necessary

Not for quite some time and it was a rookie mistake for me not to have that lot replaced...

is the car a daily driver?

what the pressure plate looks like.
Image

the middle part wears out and as Nic says it can wear unevenly. If you are planning on stripping out the box to check that. check the copper bush on the motor side of the gear box. its behind the button seal where the push rode goes through

like so
Image
I was told that if that copper bush wears it can cause problems with the push rode.
