Re: 282 clearance question
I THINK it has something to do with the 16v moving the torque up very high into the rev band where engines tend to make more HP than torque..Like I said I THINK don't quote me on this.

Re: 282 clearance question
J-B, I'll ask (if I remember) Kosie tomorrow for the graph of this ABF with our 272 compared to the same 8v. I can remember that the peak kW was 142. The torque escapes me now. Will check on it. But, anyhow, it will show on the comparative graph.

Re: 282 clearance question
Its just my input, but a 2L 8v with nice head job 276cam nice branch and exhaust and a proper tune....
Honestly is really strong.....not saying its better than abf or anything.
But had this inmy golf, i made 93wkw and and my Dad tuned the car so nice. Had power from right down at the bottom till about 6500rpm.
And that was still with stock exhaust manifold and downpipe

Re: 282 clearance question
Hi Dudley
If you want midrange torque, move to the coast!!
With the 298 cam there is a big dip in the midrange. Top end is great!

Re: 282 clearance question
Blerrie helle Nellis, that 8V is torquey, in the mid-section, right where I want it.
And yes, I still remain with my original decision. 282 FTW. On an 8V for life.

After seeing the likes of Torker and feeling the pull of Fran's golf, I really fell in love with an 8V motor. Like I said, it'll be hard to persuade me otherwise.Dono82 wrote:I will take the 8v anyday

Hahahaha. The coast will be an awesome idea, but a bigger cam will be cheaper.Fran wrote:Hi Dudley

I'll seriously consider going bigger once it's not my daily anymore, because then I can afford to be without my car for some time, and get a nice management system fitted.
Hey bud, you will be able to put in a 282 in your ADY, I also have an ADY, but running FI. To get your carb sorted, I'm sure Panic Mechanic will be able to sort you out. I think they play around with the jetting on the carb untill it's spot on, also if he helps you do it, he's got a dyno, so you'll be sure when it leaves there it'll be perfectly tuned.chucker02 wrote:sorry for the hi jack but can i put a 282cam in my ADY? i am still running a carb. will i have issues with fuelling?

Where do people come with this thing that a 8V makes more torque than a 16v?

Re: 282 clearance question
Dudley, your car might be very shaky and unhappy under 2000rpm if you use a larger cam. Forgot if you experience any of that with your current set-up?

Re: 282 clearance question
Mid range is from 3000-4500 yes? I am sure there will be more than enough to get by my car is making 1.6 power there and its very drive able pulls enough to get past cars etc. Still think you need to ask Scratch and they guys that have had the 282 and went 288 instead.

Re: 282 clearance question
Yeah buddy, it happens now even with the 268 in. Especially when she's cold. I'm semi used to that already.Fran wrote:Dudley, your car might be very shaky and unhappy under 2000rpm if you use a larger cam. Forgot if you experience any of that with your current set-up?
Buddy, the 282 will be more than fine. I have a flowed head as well, so the 282 will be in it's happy place. Coming from a 268, it'll be a nice jump in power. But also, the 268 is very punchy in the lowrange and midrange, I really don't want to sacrifice too much of that now, as I've grown used to it, and love it. I'm sure I'll be happy with it.Vinnige Fanie wrote:Mid range is from 3000-4500 yes? Re: 282 clearance question
A skilled tuner can dial most of it out, unfortunately it involves a very rich mixture (11.5 AFR) that can impact negatively on fuel consumption.Fran wrote:Dudley, your car might be very shaky and unhappy under 2000rpm if you use a larger cam. Do you use your car to tow a caravan or to enjoy the drive why do you need lots of power low down? Re: 282 clearance question
I just wanted to ask the 282 clearance question just now and here it is, already answered!
I've got a question regarding my own build (sorry for this)....
Will I need to change anything on my current setup for the 282 Estas cam (should be getting stock in two weeks time according to Jacques at Sportcam, spoke to him on Monday)
I have a 2.0 ADY with Polocup ECU (stock 1.4i exhaust, will do that after the cam). My car goes up to 180 quite quickly, but I recon the exhaust is to blame for it not going much faster than that...
I see that the Polocup ECU was setup for a 288cam so I should be fine?
Sorry for the jack, just wanted to ask while it's not *too of topic

Re: 282 clearance question
There's something special about having a strong motor with plenty of torque in a lightweight car, you can floor it in any gear at any rpm's and it will just go, if you battle with traction in 1st just use 2nd gear...Vinnige Fanie wrote:
