What I want to do to mine is a stroker kit and bore it out max. That should bring about good gains.

Now thats what im talking about 2.2 ABF.
mated to a port job and mild cams.
Anyone know what that setup might unleash on the wheels?
I know the 2.2 cranks are quite pricey tho.
I can dream for now.

You can get to 97.5mm stroke by off-set grinding a big journal TDi crank to std big end size, 98mm if you go undersize on the big end...CRASH_IT wrote:Now thats what im talking about 2.2 ABF.

Can anyone tell me if a cold air induction is possible on a ABF mk1 or what would be the best way to get more cold air up in the motor? Airbox is mounted up against the inside of the fender, space is abit cramped

Re: ABF Conversion advice
There's alot of PROS & CONS about running a cone filter or the airbox. Some people say the cone gets a huge amount of heat where the box is closed up, what would be best??
I've got the bigger silicon air bends straight through to the airbox, but after the box???

Dubrun with hoofing plenty and a fully loaded car with 3 people plus 1.4ton car at the start of the run up and down I got 7.5 per 100 down and 7.8l per 100 up.Psycho1400 wrote:
But how much lighter bud? With good tuning I've heard of 2.0 8v motors that are pretty good on the open road. Barney's car gave him +-15km/l on highway driving IIRC, with a 282 cam.
2.0 with cam is light... driving style makes a massive difference. Driving to pta i got it really low mid 5l per 100, rolling traffic i will see high 8's low 9 and really bumper to bumper 10... if i just sit 110-120 on highway i see 6's

Re: ABF Conversion advice
This is actually a really good read.. I was kinda hungry untill I read this - safe to say it's filling.. Anyway, er, sorry if this is a little off topic, but I have to know. Say you fit an O2J 'box to the ABF, would the variations in said 'boxes make a difference? Will it bolt straight on? See I've done a little research and narrowed it down to about three choices I think I have.. The DQY from the TDi Beetle, or the DZC or FBY from the Jetta IV or VR6. Also, will they fit to a 9A? Once again, sorry for thread jacking, I just have to know!!

Re: ABF Conversion advice
Makes sense, good power from the turbo - but, isn't that motor even more expensive than even the ABF? I actually have a 9A already, but my uncle has an ABF he might give to me if I ask nicely.. That's why I need to know if it will fit to either.. Also, that 1.8t - uses an O2M 'box if I ain't mistaken? Don't those weigh about as much as a MK1? Wouldn't it be senseless to drop it into a fox when the gear box weighs about just as much as the entire car? Power to weight ratio can't be good.. Or am I wrong?

Done both conversion myself.
Keep in mind both these amounts exclude labour as I done the work myself with help of my bro and friends.
From what I have seen ABF's make around 160hp in Durban.
