9n3 1.6i leaking oil.. oil pump?

Post by DES7 »

:hi:
Over the weekend I noticed the polo has been leaking oil and was on the min level on the stick.
Topped the oil up.

This morning took car to vw and they had a quick look, cool guy service advisor said he believes its the oil pump leaking.
Car will be booked in 2mrw morning.

Mileage is 65xxxkms, 2009 model. Car was serviced mid January at VW Hatfield Pta.

Anybody else experienced this?
I have searched and found vinnieks had a similar situation.
What does it cost to replace with labour?

Do you see oil patches on the floor in the mornings?

Or obvious signs of oil leaking - other than it being low?

Unless this engine is very different to any other vw i have seen before then the pump is enclosed inside the sump. For it to leak on it's own it must be moved form the sump. So i recon your very cool service guy is talking sh!t.
It's either a seal on the crank pulley or the sump that's leaking.

It happens to quite a few polos, the oil pump bolts are loose on the front of the engine. They gonna quote u on remove and install cambelt which i think is about 2.9 hours. They dont actually remove the cambelt, they just strip off the covers and tighten the bolts and clean up. 2.9hours x R595.00 = R1725.50. Thats an estimate for u.

What i would is firstly is clean engin drive a day or so you should then narrow down where the oil is coming from,it is not your oil pump, the seal between gearbox and engin or sump gasket is the more likely cause.I agree that service advisor is talking ****.

Stephan the oil pump housing sits on the outside of the crankcase just to the right and slighly above the crank on the drivers side of the motor.

I noticed it on Julies ex 1.6 9N Polo I have seen it in the 1.4 as well.. never bothered to have a look under my 2.0 polo.

:hijack:
while we're on the topic of oil leaks. My golf seems to be leaking oil from the top of the oil filter housing, is this possible?

yep, seal or oil filter not installed correctly.

whenever you replace a filter always clean under the housing as any oil sludge etc will cause the new filter not to seal properly

It's not leaking from the seal though, I checked. It seems to be leaking from the top of the housing, the part which the oil filter screws onto.
