The gear alignment can be tricky, sometimes you get it right 1st time, other times you have to battle endlessly to get it right. The ideal would be to have equal side-to-side play in 1st and 5th, then you know the alignment is right.

thanx donn and torker, problem with the engaging of the gears was not there with the old engine, will the new one make a difference in the adjustment of the linkages? i just unhooked both linkages, never loosened them at the adjustment points. when the car goes in gear i can feel it wants to move as if the clutch is not releasing fully. i spaced it on top of the cable and underneath but it stays the same no matter how i adjust it.

The links are rods, and they are fixed position, now your engine swap has resulted in the gearbox not bolting in the exact same position as it was, hence why u need to fiddle with linkage setting. Its common. Dont stress. Just stick in 1st, loosen that bolt/nut hold lever in 1st and have someone tighten. And test. If not good, repeat. Ensure bushes are in good nick. Good luck

The jetting will be fine. As the 2litre just sucks more air/fuel than the 1.3

Those carbs came on kombi's 5cylinder motors larger than 2litre.

o ok will try that! thanx alot man. i am currently running the standard 1.3 carb, its very sluggish under 2000rpm than it builds up nicely but i just know there is unused power that still needs discovering. also i cant plant the accel pedal cause it jerks and eventually starts pulling again. have to be very gentle with the pedal just to get it going

Check your timing and your vacuum advance from carb to dizzy. You did put the carb dizzy? Cause that static timing dizzy doesnt work too well with carb.

ill check my timing again to make sure. yes i have the 4 window dizzy, got the engine from a friend and he ran it on carb and it went like a train(according to him). i put his jets over in a new WAG carb and it just nosedives when you put your foot down. i have a vernier pulley, any particular setting required on these? im running it like a standard pulley at the moment, was going to get a 272cam but plans fell through.

That nosedive is the accelerator pump not working or not supplying enough.

ja sal dit di naweek dun strepies! its just its a brand new carb, but it is a WAG, and the original carb with the VW badge on it pulls 5 times better. OEM FTW! but will move the tik tik facet to the tank wit a relay and see what happens. saturday was just to short to do everything the right way.

Went for a spin :driving: :driving: last night in the car...

Can feel it is a lot stronger, but at 5000rpm the pump being in the wrong place, on the front chassis end, it just can't keep the carb full and it sorts of limit :bang: :bang: and then back fires...

Need to move that pump and just get it on a dyno so that they can check the CO's through the range when it is loaded....

Damn this job of mine were I can't do the manual and ADY swop on my Fox..... :( :( :( :(
