haha i learned the hard way about that 1800 clutch. had to remove the gearbox when engine was in the car to remove the 2L clutch only to find the splines are bigger than the 1800 clutch, wish i knew that sooner.

Are you in capetown?
I also think the 1.4 clutch will be fine, Just get the 210mm flywheel .
Why buy a 210mm flywheel then put the 1.4 clutch in. Just

You need a 210mm flywheel and clutch kit.

The things listed here is all you need for the transplant.
Engine - 2E/ADY/AGG
210mm clutch
210mm flywheel
Service kit (cambelt, tentioner, oil, oil filter, fuel fiter, air filter)
Oil seals - Replace the crank, cam, secondary pulley, gearbox side crank seals to. just to be sure no oil leaks after installing.
Dizzy - Use either methods explained.
Map ECU to 2.0
Swop over all bits from 1.4 like pulleys, alternator, temp sensor, map sensor (I would swop entire intake and injectors, just easier)etc

Thanks for the wishlist.
Yes, that was a bit of a mistake made by my part...
Going to go to Goldwagen tomorrow to get the parts.
Mechanic friend told me I must ask for a 1800Flywheel and a 1800 clutch that goes with it.
Also he says I must get the two dowl clutch kit, while the sales person said I must get the single bell clutch kit and pressure plate (R950)
Also buying a headset as it comes with all the seals (so I've been told)

Have patience, I'm still learning :hi:

ironG I fitted my 2.0 ADY 2 weeks ago, bought it at Mikes Place in Epping, I am not sorry at all! Also the jump between the 1.4 to the 2.0 will be worth it, swap all your 1.4i bits, and do what Crash_it said with regards to servicing and you will be sorted.

All the best with your build!

when I bought mine last year in November it cost R5000, so not bad at all, but I think they will go up quickly due to them being in high demand, just like the ABF's got expensive fast!!

When I first heard of the 2.0 conversion in '09 they were R3500!
Gave Mike's a call yesterday, they have about 100 ADY engines in stock at R5500.
OK, I thought I had my list of parts sorted out, but then CRASH enlightened me again.

So here is my final (hopefully) list:
2.0 ADY engine
1800 210mm double bell sachs clutch and flywheel
Cambelt
2E headset (I am swapping tappet covers to keep it standard looking)
both the crank seals and secondary shaft seal - Can I just say 2E Both crank seals and secondary shaft seal to the sales person?

Service parts was not included in this list as I'll just get it from Midas ; Same for ECU- got a contact to get the 2.0 polo ECU)

Hopefully tomorrow morning I will be completely sure about ALL the needed parts :hurray:

Sorry for the jack but im also going to do the 2l swap for the first time on my own and so far ive gathered lots of info from this thread.

My question, when converting from a 1.6 carb to 2l motor is the adapter ring required for the dizzy i.e. can i fit the 1.6 dizzy directly onto the ady motor? Ill be using the carb for now because of my limited budget.

Thanks

Well I paid R6000.00 for my engine at Mikes Place, the ones for R5500.00 don't look in good shape, just my opinion.

And for the 2.0 Engine you need a 4 window dizzy, if I am not mistaken

I bought my 2.0 ADY engine today from Mike's Place for R5500, in a very good condition as well.
But I had spoken with both Daniel and Sox before I heard of Gino from my mechanic.

He gave me a top quality engine and even checked the water pipe and swapped the breather hoses.

So I would recommend anyone to work through him.

Also got the 1800 9pin double bell (spelling...) Flywheel and 1800 Sachs clutch that goes with it.

Some engine cleaner and a head set (swapping over the 1.4 tappet cover).

Going to start stripping the engine tomorrow as I have some other work to finish tonight

If someone will give me an idea of how to upload pics I can do that as well?

Ok go for the 210mm singel dell flyweel setup. The presure plate are stronger than the double once. You can buy the adaptor for the distributor from us. You will also need extra flyweel bolts.

OK, time for a update.
Viper, you were correct about those flywheel bolts, 3 of them at R36 made me interrupt my build with almost a hour to fetch them :bang: .
But it was quite simple and I have now got a 2.0 Golf that looks like an old lady 1.4i car.
I went to Kuilsrivier with a friend of mine to go view some cars and this guy in a bubble shape 1.8 Toyota comes with the music blasting and 2 of his friends in the car and just starts revving it up for a robot to robot dice and I thought cool, my 1st dice.
I smoked him for 500m (not going past 5500rpm as I have standard everything, small pipes and even a non cut airbox).
When we stopped at the 2nd robot he was shocked "Is djy seker dis 'n veertien honderd??" I smiled and smoked him again :troll: , after that he went onto the N1.
You do really feel the difference in torque from the 1.4 to 2.0 :hurray:
