Good morning fellow dubbers
Just joined the forum and am loving it, the info here is amazing! Big ups to vwclub
Ive got a 1.4i golf with 272 cam, branch and flo. The power only kicks in at 4000rpm which i think is a bit late. Read on this forum of guys with 272's on 1.4's kicking in as low as 2500rpm. Timing is all fine, advanced to around 10 degs, would i be able to rectify this with a vernier or is this just a myth that u can move the power band with a vernier? My cam is also an *** type and im wondering if this could be the problem?
Please could u guys advise me?
Thanx Cheers

Re: Vernier pulley setting
I dunno about it pulling from that low. I had a 268 on my 1.4i, and it only started pulling nicely at about 3500rpm.dubdude wrote:The power only kicks in at 4000rpm which i think is a bit late. Read on this forum of guys with 272's on 1.4's kicking in as low as 2500rpm.

Re: Vernier pulley setting
272 will never pull strongly from 2500 on a 1400

Re: Vernier pulley setting
By using a vernier pulley to move the torque band down, you'll be undoing what the cam gained you on top plus some

Re: Vernier pulley setting
From personal experience get rid of that *** cam and get an Estas 272 cam from Nellis of Sportcam. Drop this in the car and then you will notice a difference. The quality of those *** cams are terrible. They never make power period. The story of a Vernier pulley being able to move the power band is a MYTH!, the purpose of the vernier pulley is to return the cam timing to 0 degrees at TDC or BTDC after a head has been significantly skimmed and the block was decked. This changes the distance between the cam pulley and crankshaft pulley.

Re: Vernier pulley setting
Yeah that sounds normal for the *** cams, its like turbo lag for NA cars. Worst of both worlds lol.
