Engine advice needed on Cti

Post by wigglez »

Hi forum members,

I currently have an oil leak on my 93 cti.

Mechanic mentioned that its either the piston rings or bore. He might have mentioned another potential reason but cant remember.

Options are to either 1) open the motor up and find the problem 2) recondition the motor or 3) swap in a 2L sub assembly and bolt my head onto it.

My question is what has been peoples experience with option 3, how reliable is such a swap? i will be using it as a daily.
Also is there a specific motor i should request? e.g AGG, 2e etc

Im leaning towards option 3 as it would be a motor with alot less mileage and im told that option 1 could still be quite a pricey exercise if its not just the pistons/rings that need to be replaced?

Thanks in advance for the help.

When you say "oil leak", do you mean it leaves oil everywhere you go, or is it just using oil (no visible leaks, but oil level drops)? Any smoke while driving?

Thanks for the reply. There is no smoke while driving but I think that the oil is spraying out the dipstick hole. There is oil splatter on the bonnet after driving, just above the dipstick and can't see any other visible leak

Well if you swop motors, You will eed to get the kjet retuned or go aftermarket management
2l will have more torque, and you also need to do police clerance.

Forgot about the police clearance. How long does it take?

I plan on having the kjet tuned and the head reconditioned but I'm unsure how reliable the conversion would be?

check that the tappet cover breather is ok before swaping engines. also do a wet and dry comp test to check rings.
You shouldnt just jump to swapping the motor out.

If the kjet works, keep it, I had the kjet on my cti, best system with least hassels.
