What would cause a car to be unstable on the road?

Post by Rubbin&dubbin »

Everything is new in the suspension. Lca rubbers, ball joints, tie rod ends dont look shot. I did new shocks, mounts etc. But still at high speed its not " sticking" in the road. Could the springs be shot? Steering rack?

wheel alignment, flat tyre, bearing, broken hub can be manymany things. You need to get it on a lift and really look.

Today i did new tyres balancing and alignment. Bearings are not humming at all. Wen they were doing alignment i went under and had a look. All bolts were tight. Nothing seemed out of place except steering rack was leaking some fluid but its always been like that and it was fine before, just started after i did shocks.

Maybe play on the steering wheel? Does it have the original springs on the car? Did they check all suspension related bolts with a spanner or just by hand?

Maybe get a second opininon on that wheel alignment, I once fitted a new set of tyres and had the wheel alignment done, car didn't feel right so I took it somewhere else, guys at the 2nd place reckon I would have been lucky to get 10k out of the tyres because of shitty alignment done by the 1st place.

Anything ove 90 and it gets scary. tyre size 205/40/17, original springs, not lowered in any way. mileage is 312XXX.
also there is no play on the steering wheel.

Ok something is definitly wrong then. You say it started just after shocks were replaced? Jacked up each wheel and gave it a shake to check for any looseness? wierd one this is.

Well if it was ok and then started after you did shocks then take a step back. Eithernit was in the shock install or the shock itself.

I am just guessing here but maybe the springs didnt settle properly after the shocks was replaced.

I second that!!!
I had new tyres and rims fitted car drifted all over the road. took it back and they said my swing arm was bent. Took it else where and turned out to be the alignment wasnt done right.
