Re: Polo 9n3 Engine Conversion 150kw
Why do owes think you can just duct tape on a turbo somewhere and make big power on small engines for a couple thousand rand?

Re: Polo 9n3 Engine Conversion 150kw
This time i'm with everyone on this.
It is easier and safer to take a existing turbo car and make it faster than it is to make a NA car turbo. You will spend allot of moela on developing this to the max and then only make a little more power than a GTI and the worst part is the cars value will go down so you loose moela at the end of the day. Sell the 1.6 and buy GTI . (the gti will keep its value even after being modded)

And then what did you do to the GTI?SemiColon wrote:I had a 1.6, wanted to make it faster....you can't (There isn't even cams for those engines)
From my 2007 1.6 i added R40k and got a 2007 PGTI.
Remember, there is a LOT more done on a PGTI than just the Engine.
I get what you are saying about a 1.6 Sleeper, that would be cool.
Youtube has a few Vidz on Turbo kits for the 1.6 so if you really want to...

If its ur 2nd car and its a project car then maybe u could try it out BUT its ur daily car so I I wouldn't advise it. That car will be more at the mechanic then at your yard. Even after you done with the modds the car won't be reliable and wil sleep at the mechanic every week

Do yourself a favour and get the Simota spiral fan and turbo whistler..
I've seen a G6 do *157kw* ATF with just the fan down here at the coast.
The whistler will make your car sound faster.
These people don't know nothing!

Re: Polo 9n3 Engine Conversion 150kw
I know it's not what you want to hear but these guys are giving very sound advise. This subject has been discussed almost to death previously and the end result is always the same. You will have to spend way to much money to get where you want plus more for the supporting mods for the the intended power figure.
Start with a polo GTI which is built for boost.

Re: Polo 9n3 Engine Conversion 150kw
And the thing about having a heavily modified car/engine is when it comes to selling it.It can be a problem and you won't be able to cover the cost of the mods..Some people assume they can sell a car at a higher price due to the mods...which is WRONG!

Re: Polo 9n3 Engine Conversion 150kw
howzit guys. .im new here . .anyways i also have researched this idea to get more from my 9n3 1.6. .but not 150kws . .tried to get around 90. .well i have done my exhaust and induction. .and was looking into adding cams but slowly gave up on the idea as cams that are ready kill low end power and the cost of all future mods wont be worth it.the polo 9n3 is also abit heavy and power to weight ratio is important if you want to feel the power and not just see it on your dyno slip. Anyways ive learnt to just be happy with that motor and you should too.The 1.6 9n3 isnt the right car to mod so much.

Re: Polo 9n3 Engine Conversion 150kw
The sad truth is certain cars are easier and cheaper to extract power from.
Generally a good base to start off with is 2l and above.

However after getting advice from here, I quickly realized that I might as well burn the cash I had - no real improvement to come from a 1.6 motor.
So, a year and a bit later, she is still stock when it comes to the motor. I'm okay with that for now, as I have my eye on an A3 1.8T in two years time.

Re: Polo 9n3 Engine Conversion 150kw
I say leave your car as is.
1. Buy a golf mk1/mk2 and do 2L 8v/16v with itbz (both for 30k maybe 40k) you will get a kick outta it.
2. Sell it and buy Pgti
Use it don't use it

some of us mod for ourselves and not for the next person buying your car. If this above theory applied to everyone then 90% of people would not mod in the first place. just a thought. You can always sit and say you made the right decision but its the experience that makes every cent worth it.SideSwipe wrote:And the thing about having a heavily modified car/engine is when it comes to selling it.It can be a problem and you won't be able to cover the cost of the mods..Some people assume they can sell a car at a higher price due to the mods...which is WRONG!
