Citi Golf oil pump

Post by Naku786 »

:hi: Guys,

Are the oil pumps the same across the range of engines (1.3-2.0)? or is a for eg a 2.0 oil pump better flowing than a 1.6 oil pump?

My car looses oil pressure on load (when overtaking or in traffic & only when car is at full operating temp, freeway driving is fine). I have checked everything Panic mentioned in this thread http://www.vwclub.co.za/phpbb3/viewtopi ... 4&t=151451 & the only thing left to check is the oil pump itself. The pump is about 8 months old & is a Meyle item from GW. I have been told to do the following in no particular order

get a Shradeck(spelling) oil pump which is the best out there?
Change the lifters & have the head checked up?
Fit a windage tray
Baffle my sump ( I lol'd at this as I dont race track)

ANy ideas as to what could cause the issue? I honestly feel like stripping the motor & rebuild from scratch

Thanks in advance

There are pumps that has more flow ie. the gears are actually taller. You should find those on the 2l.

Can I ask a stupid question? Can it perhaps be something as small as the wrong oil being used?

Any particular brand you suggest I buy? & will this be a straight swap into my citi (1.8 8v)?

I'm using the recommended 20w50 Shell Helix oil which I have been using for years with no issues. Not a stupid question btw

Please explain, what was wrong with the bearing? After how long did you rectify the issue & what damage did this cause?

My caddy had the same issue with the 1800 motor.
The previous oke redone the motor and it seems the clearances on the main and big ends were done wrong. when the motor reached operating temp it caused the oil pressure to drop.

Maybe have a look at the bottom end?

Check the oil pickup for possible fine cracks on top of pick up where pipe goes in to the pick up cup and also at the flange side where the 2 bolts connect the pick up pipe to the oil pump. Some pumps also have an o-ring around the pipe where this bolts on to the oil pump. Possible that when oil is cold and thicker that it seals and will open up once oil temperature is up and oil thinner when hot.
