Polo Classic 2003 1.4 EPC Light

Post by PeterSusmak »

Sup guys,

A while back vw quoted R16 000 to fix my moms Cat, I was blown away by the price and decided to just de-cat the car with a silencer in place. The exhaust shops down here(Nelspruit) arent really clued up so they did not put in a mini-cat, problem is I do not know if the lambda is damaged as the EPC light keeps lighting up. When they cut the cat out it was a round ball and rolling around in the chamber. So how will I find out if the lambda is broken? and where can I get one of those mini-cats that will fool the ecu?

Thanks for the help in advance

Impossible to tell of the probe is still working if you don't have vagcom or some other testing equipment.

Stephan, do you know any place in Nelspruit where I could test? Could I go to bosch?

Taking the Cat off on those Polos wil not cause a fault.
Taking it off and damaging the wiring or the actual probe on the other hand might cause it.

Ok no thanks Stephan.

In the first place, how the cat actually was damaged is that I think a rock or paving hit the exhaust just after the flexi piece and it compressed it to like a flat oval, and the disturbance in flow caused it, that what the dealer told my mom. From then the epc light has come up, and only when theres a change in driving style, like you can drive fast all the time but as soon as you drive slow the epc light comes on and the car has no power, so I think the lambda is damaged.

If there is a bosch dealer they might have the test equipment. Might be worth a shot ifyou are reallynavoiding vw themselves. That occurance might have damaged the lmabda probe. They are not the most hardy of animals against knocking.

Hi
There are a couple of cicuits that can trigger the EPC warning light.
A faulty brake light switch is one of them believe it or not, however the symptoms you have I.E power loss points me to the throttle body. I have had one of my customers cars with a similar problem. Remove the airbox and manually move the 'butterfly' use carb cleaner if theres muck build up. Hopefully it not shot then u can get a throttle calibration done by the Bosch guys.

Let me know if any of this helps.
