Building a 16v
Hi all. I have a 1.8 8v block.
I can get 4 new 1.8 16v pistons for a start.
Will the 16v pistons fit the 8v con rods?
Will a 16v head bolt straight onto the block?
Then to run it on management do I just take the mechanical injectors out and get a universal fuel rail with new injectors?
Do the normal 8 v injectors fit without modifying the head??
Then I am going to keep the 8v oil pump so where do I cut the dizy so the normal 8 v oil pump still works?? Is there any other stuff I need.
I know I can just buy a 16v but I have the
block and I have a head and I am getting the pistons free. So might as well use it.

Re: Building a 16v
Weigh up the costs for building this as opposed to getting a KR or ABF.
You will need to replace all the bearing etc so the costs will start to add up. Main issue you going to have is to get the crank pulley and intermediate shaft pulley for a 16v. Everything else will fit as per your questions.

Re: Building a 16v
does that block have a breather on it?
Thats the only other concern i have as the 16v tappet cover does not have a breather and the crankcase pressure will be very high...

Re: Building a 16v
Yes it has a breather.
I know the intermediate shaft puly is different but isn't the crank puly the same on both?? Buying one is R6500 if I spend the same amount on building one I basically have a brand new motor. These import motors isn't always low mileage. I have seen a front cut lexus at engenden with the motor and gearbox and dash intact and it had 180 000 miles on the clock.

Re: Building a 16v
No the crank pulley is not the same, hence why I said you need both, the 16v one is wider, grooves are different and I think has a different number of teeth.
The 16v also has little oil squirters under each piston in the bore to help with cooling.honestly rather build a strong 8v or just buy the 16v...

Yes, the KRs, but I don't think the ABF has them.VWicked wrote:defend...Dirty Harry wrote:No the crank pulley is not the same, hence why I said you need both, the 16v one is wider, grooves are different and I think has a different number of teeth.

EDIT: Or maybe I just missed them when I had mine open

Re: Building a 16v
Yup, they bolt to the block at the base of the bore in the crankcase. Then squirt oil up onto the bottom of the piston.

I think its at the bottom of the bore...not too sure on location exactly but its there.

I know what Stephan and you are saying, just the location to me sounds wrong, or the description thereof...Dirty Harry wrote:VWicked wrote:defend...Dirty Harry wrote:No the crank pulley is not the same, hence why I said you need both, the 16v one is wider, grooves are different and I think has a different number of teeth.
