Little unfair... Yours has a few more horses and gearing isn't anywhere nearbthe ffz box.

Robert did what 230 something km\h in his mk3 around gerotec..... So doable it is but defn not with a 1.6.... Wait a second you can swop out those little gears on the speedo cable., might get it to over read quite a bit but even then I think 220 is over optimistic.

Definately a bit unfair, but to give an idea to reach those speeds in 4th: 2 litre 8 valve motor, turbo, 02A gearbox from a Mk2 2.0 16V that will theoretically allow around 254kmh at 7000rpm in 5th (theoretics has been known to be proven though  ), 17 inch wheels, decent suspension, decent brakes to slow down from those speeds etc, etc.

Unless you can rev that 1600 motor to beyond 10 000rpm, have enough power to haul that heavy Mk3 Jetta around at very high speed, etc then you may just crack 220. But if you are set on hitting that speed, it will be way cheaper to go buy a car that can do it than it will be to modify your car to do it.

but what do you say CAM, FREEFLOW, and a HEADJOB will that be ok for now.
Ok, If you're set on doing it this way. Maybe I can help you se the light.

Cam - +-R1500 (Estas from Nellis)
Head job - +-R2800 (From Sarel @8v performance)
Branch + Freeflow - +-R4000 - R4500 (depends on where you shop)
This excludes gasket kits and fitment.
Then you need someone to set everything up on a dyno - +-R500 - R1000 (depending on who you choose)

Look at the costs. You're going to sit with a car that will still feel sluggish. Then you look at 2.0 8V costs. They cost +-R5000. Sarel Eloff did my whole 2.0 8v conversion for R15 000. That includes 210mm clutch kit, engine was overhauled, 2.0 map was loaded on my mp9 ecu, fitment etc. I literally dropped my 1.4 citi golf by him, couple of days later I walked in by him and drove out with a 2.0 8v.

If you can do everything yourself, you're going to end up spending even less. Food for thought. :hi:

Because a csl is a 1.6i and i want to keep it a 1.6i

Sorry i didn't know my Caps Lock were on

Thank you
Clearly you using the speedo readings. Your car is gonna run into limiter at about 205km/h so unless you're gonna move the limiter you can forget about 220km/h.

I had the 1.6 engine in my Polo with a 272 cam and supporting mods the car would not go past 200km/h, even now with the bigger 16v engine that makes almost double the power I struggle to get past the speeds you want to get. If you want to go that fast you would be better off buying a motorcycle.

Cheers.

My old 1.6 polo that had a similar motor and gearbox IIRC ran into the limiter in 5th at 6250 RPM and reading in the speedo was 195km/h it had stock 14" wheels on .. Never ever got it over that no matter what I tried and believe me myself and Rob tried plenty times. Goes up up 195km/h and you hiot the soft limiter drops of speed to about 190km/h speeds up again a little hit the limiter back again to 190..

If you look at the old Gerotech results many years ago IIRC I either won or was Second in class C with a speed od 181km/h. Speedo reading was around 185km/h .
