polo 9n. starting issue.

Howzit.

Buddy needs help with his Polo 9N 1.4 16v.

Having issues with starting. Got spark, got fuel. Pump is working. Changed dodge coil.

What can he start looking into. Sounds like its missing.
I don't get lost in the shuffle. I shuffle with the lost

Shaun at Goldwagen florida also states that could be a cold start sensor.

Could be but you would smell it overfuelling badly and basicly flooding (pull a plug after trying to start it and if it's wett and reaks of fuel you might be going down the right avenue)

explain cold start sensor. Perhaps he means water temp sender.....Cold start sensor by that name was last found on a k-jet system.
As usual - start with the basics ie. is there spark and is there fuel.

Water temp sensor is what I was thinking of, he said there is spark and fuel. Hence me thinking of the crank sensor that tells the management where tdc is so timing?

ah sorry missed that. Yes check out or change water temp sensor. if there was an issue with engine speed sensor it would not spark neither would the fuel pump turn on.

How did you check for spark? I know the plug leads on them were also a point of failure.

coil on spark pencil coils not? no lead?. not sure which version of this engine we are talking about here?.

Howzit,

My wife's 2003 Polo 1.4 16V had the same problem - it would intermittently struggle to start. It swings cleanly but just doesn't start. After a couple of tries and a cloud of black smoke from the exhaust it would finally start. The problem was worse when the engine was hot (at normal operating temperature).

Turned out to be the engine temperature sensor that was faulty - dealer replaced it and voila, the end of the issues.
