Citi Golf larger radiator, fluid capacity?

Post by Psycho8v »

Hi everyone. :hi:

Ok long story short, I changed motors from 1.4 to 2.0, but I still have the small radiator in. I'm looking at changing it with the larger one. How much fluid does the system take? Because I know the ratio of anti freeze is usually on the bottle, so I just want to know how much I need to throw in?

Then also, the radiator and piping that Goldwagen sell, are they good quality, or should I steer clear?

Thanks in advance.

Edit : I tried searching, but I think I'm typing in the wrong stuff.

Not overheating Joggie, but after even a short drive my fans kick in alot sooner than with the 1.4 motor, so I may be mistaken, but I think she is running a bit warmer. And I've got an irritating little water leak on the bottom pipe, only when I give it a bit of stick, it leaks, when driving normal it's fine? Dunno why? The clamp is tight.

My advice would be to get a water temp sensor and a oil temp sensor and have a look at what is going on.
Personal experiance the VW motors water temp very very seldom go over 105 deg and if so the cause is normally very high oil temps .. If you keep the oil temps below 120deg I can't see that your water temp would ever be an issue.

Might be building pressure in the pipe for some reason.. I would pour in some rad flush and drive around a day or so with it. flush the system out properly buy some decent quality clamps and clean the pipes and connections properly befor fastening them .. it should sort your issue.

I'm running a Caddy radiator in my GT, it's 6cm longer than the std Citi radiator but you can only get it from the agents at over 2k. My fans comes on less than what they did in my stock Velo so it works well for me.
Current rides:

VW Golf - 83 GT 2.1 16V 2-door with throttles
VW Golf - 78 LS 2.0 8V 4-door (2.1 ABF with throttles in progress)
VW Golf - '08 Citi Storm - 1.4 for now
Hyundai - 1.4 Getz (daily)

You sure someone like Silverton Radiator won't have ?

BTW a colder motor isn't always a good thing.

My boet has a normal small radiator in his car on 16v and his car runs hot so I would upgrade if you can. The price is almost double though for the CTi type radiator which is longer.
Have you had your bottle of Hatorade today?

Goldwagen Krugersdorp quoted me a price of R400 for the larger radiator. :???:

@Joggie, I know that a colder motor isn't always good, as I've read somewhere that the golfs like warmer running motors?

Jip...

Saw it again with my caddy on Stephans dyno a little while ago ... it made 98HP and 148NM (after tuning it)... loaded the dyno and kept it on high RPM for a while .. did another power run and bam 101HP and 150NM ..

Best power is made when the oil temps are around 110-120deg.

That is friggin cool  I knew you guys said they run better, I didn't know that much better.

When I said my car is running a bit warmer, I drive home in the afternoon, and it's 120kp/h pretty much all the way, then there is a short piece in town that I drive. Probably about 1km. When I stop in front of my garage, the fan kicks in, I open the garage, I drive in and stop and switch the car off, then it kicks in again. And I don't drive like a hooligan in the town. I actually drive the 60km/h, and also don't hoof it to get there.

Fan coming on and off doesn't say that your car is running hott of over heating it's just doing it's job.
Where is the heat guage sitting ? Mine sits +- in the middle and driving like a you know what it rises just a little over half (like 2-3mm) and I'm still not anyway near worried.. Water temp on the Dyno was between 90-100deg and it's hot but still "normal". Standing still and driving in slow moving traffic will see the water temp rising as the rad is less effective.

Ok cool, thanks for that Joggie. My guage sits in the middle (2004 model citi), never moves, well I've never noticed that it moves beyond half way. Maybe I'm just being a worried old fart for nothing.
