Polo 6N suspension issue.

Post by Vinnige Fanie »

Hi Guys,

So today I heard a knock noise and I see my driver side wheel sit more to the front of the car and its pulling left quite a bit, Can this be the subframe that moved? I have looked at the wishbones and they look fine from what I can see there is nothing out of place the shocks are firmly fastened.

Any advice will be great.

Thank you

What kind of knock?

From your symptoms it sounds like lca bushes on way out.
How does it feel in a straight line?

It just pulls left but last time I did the wheel alignment they unscrewed the subframe maybe they did not tighten it enough? And Bushes are Poly bushes were done this time last year with the Koni shocks?

Check loose sub frame bolts, LCA bushes and maybe even bent lower control arm itself?

Honda's are worse, They cost 4 times more to fix, Thats why we buried mine in the garage, Has not been seen or driven for 12 years..

My Friend's Honda is faster and more luxurious than my car and it has not given him one single day of problems, The Subframe I think moved but the lower control arm looks straight and they say that the bushes are good as well. Simpotoms are the car pulls left and once you tap of the throttle the car feels lose on the road and the same happens when you brake.

His honda is alao many many years newer and more expensive. I'm not sure that what you describe is a wheel bearing. Sounds like control arm bush or lower suspension balljoint.

His Honda is a 1999 Model same as Mine, The wheel bearing is shot they lifted the car on a 2 post jack and there is a huge amount of play on the wheel, The Ball joints look fine from what I could see and the guy there also looked and couldn't find any other faults will change the bearing tomorrow and see from there. Guess this is the kicks of older modified cars. :bang:

Mmm that play can also be a broken hub instead of the bearing. Bearings usually make a huge amountmof noise first. Has he checked that the nut is tight in the centre.? I would be very unkeen to drive that far.

I am also but I have to get it to Pretoria (40km) so I can get it fixed tomorrow. When I turn left on full lock there is a big klunk from the suspension. Ill see if I can stay on smaller back roads and hope for the best.

Maybe check top shock mountings.

This doesn't sound like a bearing to me. Bearings tend to die over a period of time, and you would've heard it making a noise way before you got the looseness on the wheel. Come to my house later and we'll check that big 30mm nut on your hub. A friend of mine's golf also had loads of play, but after tightening that nut it was 100%. It's worth a shot
