MK2 GTi 1.8 16v
Good morning guys...
I'm a newbie here. I also recently obtained a fairly good MK2 GTi 1.8 16v. Its not the neatest one around but it gets the heads turning. Just got to get her running properly before I start modding.
Any K-Jetronic gurus here?
Technically speaking if I turn the idle screw all the way in, the car should switch of right? If it doesn't this means that I have a leak in the intake? Have checked for leaks\ cracked or torn pipes... Nothing. The car is running ok but think it should be a lot more responsive.
Also if I rev the car on standstill the revs should drop quickly right?
It takes a while to come back down to idle... (Intake leak)
What should I be getting on tank range. I'm currently getting +- 500km to 550km on a tank.
Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Re: MK2 GTi 1.8 16v
When I get some time I will be posting a DIY on how to test all the kjetronic sensors and so on.
Anyway if you looking for a kjetronic master, chat to panic-mechanic on this forum, he will be able to tune the car for you.

Re: MK2 GTi 1.8 16v
That Idle screw has a rubber washer/seal .. it sounds like it's worn. Go the VW and get a new one it was cheap as chips last time I got one (al be it 5-8 years ago) .. should sort you the issue you are discribing in all liklyhood.

Just out of curiosity what should the KW figures be on a stock KR motor at the wheels? Like to know for when I do take mine.

When accelerating it revs up smoothly just not quick enough like its supposed to . Maybe I'm expecting a bit much out of the stock setup but really think something is wrongjoggiep wrote:You say you think that it should be more responsive ? does it hessetate a little and then take of ?

Re: MK2 GTi 1.8 16v
Best bet would be to get it to Stephan and let him put it on the rollers.. only real way to see what is going on.. the old butt dyno isn't the most reliable out there.
Besides the man is a bloody legend when it comes to K-jet. If it's a tuning issue (or anything else for that matter) I'm 100% he'll be albe so help you out.
